Fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis and refractory ventricular arrhythmias requiring mechanical circulatory support: a case report.

Background: Fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis (EM) is a rare and often fatal condition that may present atypically and be complicated by ventricular arrhythmias. Treatment involves high-dose corticosteroids to suppress eosinophilia, as well as increasing use of mepolizumab, an anti-interleukin-5 antibody with evidence for long-term efficacy and safety.

Case Summary: A 38-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with neck pain and fatigue, and after extensive investigation was diagnosed with EM secondary to idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome.

The diagnosis of lower functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) is currently based on subjective and unreliable patient-reported symptoms, with significant clinical overlap between diagnosed phenotypes. Objective biomarkers are urgently sought. Gastrointestinal ultrasound (GIUS) can objectively and non-invasively assess luminal contents.

Behavioral science should start by assuming people are reasonable.

Should policymaking assume humans are irrational? Using empirical, theoretical, and philosophical arguments, we suggest a more useful frame is that human behavior is reasonable. Through identifying goals and systemic factors shaping behavior, we suggest that assuming people are reasonable enables behavioral science to be more effective in shaping public policy.

Clinical utility of C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio in the management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Background And Aim: C-reactive protein (CRP)-to-albumin ratio (CAR) is a novel score with prognostic value in inflammatory conditions. This study assessed the performance of CAR as an objective marker of disease activity and prediction of subtherapeutic infliximab trough levels in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on three different patient cohorts with IBD: patients who had (i) fecal calprotectin (FC) measurements; (ii) Mayo Endoscopic Scores; and (iii) infliximab trough levels available.

The Gender Wage Gap, Between-Firm Inequality, and Devaluation: Testing a New Hypothesis in the Service Sector.

Unequal sorting of men and women into higher and lower wage firms contributes significantly to the gender wage gap according to recent analysis of national labor markets. We confirm the importance of this between-firm gender segregation in wages and examine a second outcome of hours using unique employer-employee data from the service sector. We then examine what explains the relationship between firm gender composition and wages.

Climate change mitigation depends on tracking public opinion across populations. Social scientists can collaborate with environmental organizations that conduct surveys among their audiences. We teamed up with the non-profit Milieudefensie, who surveyed Dutch attitudes towards climate change in 2019-2020.

We are in a climate emergency. Because governments are reacting too slowly, grassroots collective action is key. Understanding the psychological factors underpinning engagement can facilitate the growth of such collective action.

Introduction: An important component of the advances made in neuroblastoma treatment has been the use of peripheral blood stem cells to support high-dose chemotherapy. In this study, we report our experience on a series of small children who have undergone standard and large volume leukaphersis (LVL) procedures, provide an update on a single institution's experience with cryopreservation of autologous peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs), using 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and applying post-thaw DMSO depletion and analyze a number of variables that may affect viability.

To strike or not to strike? an investigation of the determinants of strike participation at the Fridays for Future climate strikes in Switzerland.

The Fridays for Future strikes involve students striking for increased action on climate change, and this movement has spread to 185 countries and received widespread media attention. This exploratory study investigates motives for participating or not in the climate strikes and future participation among students in Switzerland. In a sample of N = 638 university students, we found that trust in climate scientists, low trust in governments, response efficacy, protest enjoyment and the perceived success of the strikes predicted participation.

This paper reviews motivations people experience about climate change and integrates recent findings into the BUCkET model of core social goals. We argue that environmentalism is not the main cause of thoughts or behaviors about climate change. Rather, the evolved social needs for Belongingness, Understanding, Control, self-Enhancement, and Trust are more practical intervention targets than the attempt to create environmentalist beliefs or identities.

Single-Molecule Orthogonal Double-Click Chemistry-Inorganic to Organic Nanostructure Transition.

Thiasilacyclopentane (TSCP) and azasilacyclopentane (ASCP) heteroatom cyclics have proven capable of rapidly converting hydroxylated surfaces to functionalized surfaces in inorganic click reactions. In this work, we demonstrate that the use of these reagents can be extended to "simultaneous double-clicking" when both inorganic and organic substrates are present at the onset of the reaction. The simultaneous double-click depends on a first ring-opening click with an inorganic substrate that is complete in ∼1 s at 30 °C and results in the reveal of a cryptic mercaptan or secondary amine group, which can then participate in a second click with an organic substrate.

It is unclear how we should evaluate when life is no longer worth living for an infant. Purpose Of Study: This study focuses on the search for a suitable related HLA-matched donor of haematopoietic stem cells in the context of allogeneic transplantation in Morocco. The aim of this work is to establish whether the related donor can meet graft needs in Moroccan patients.
