Background:  Sarcopenia is a condition characterized by the loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength. Recently, there has been a tremendous amount of research into the prognostic value of sarcopenia in surgical outcomes. The purpose of this study was to compare postoperative outcomes in free flap breast reconstruction in patients with and without sarcopenia.

Background: Hospital-based violence intervention programs (HVIP) aim to reduce violent-injury recidivism by providing intensive case management services to high-risk patients who were violently injured. Although HVIP have been found effective at reducing recidivism, few studies have sought to identity how long their effects last. Additionally, prior studies have been limited by the fact that HVIP typically rely on self-report or data within their own healthcare system to identify new injuries.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Briana E McLaughlin"

  • - Briana E McLaughlin's research primarily focuses on the impact of preoperative conditions, specifically sarcopenia, on surgical outcomes and the efficacy of hospital-based interventions in reducing violent injury recidivism.
  • - One significant study revealed that patients with preoperatively identified sarcopenia experienced greater postoperative complications and longer hospital and ICU stays following autologous microsurgical breast reconstruction.
  • - Additionally, her examination of a hospital-based violence intervention program highlighted its effectiveness in reducing recidivism among violently injured patients, while also emphasizing the need for long-term evaluations beyond immediate outcomes.
