The goal of the present investigation was to test the hypothesis that types 1, 2, and 3 iodothyronine selenodeiodinases (D1, D2, and D3) can form homodimers. The strategy included transient coexpression of wild-type (wt) deiodinases (target), and FLAG-tagged alanine or cysteine mutants (bait) in human embryonic kidney epithelial cells. SDS-PAGE of the immunoprecipitation pellet of (75)Se-labeled cell lysates using anti-FLAG antibody revealed bands of the correct sizes for the respective wt enzymes, which corresponded to approximately 2-5% of the total deiodinase protein in the cell lysate.

Objective: To determine usefulness of the test for proteins induced by vitamin K absence or antagonism (PIVKA) to identify anticoagulant-poisoned dogs, compared with one-stage prothrombin time (OSPT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) tests.

Design: Retrospective study.

Animals: 325 dogs.

The effects of multiple stress stimuli on the cellular utilization of the serum- and glucocorticoid-inducible protein kinase (Sgk) were examined in NMuMg mammary epithelial cells exposed to hyperosmotic stress induced by the organic osmolyte sorbitol, heat shock, ultraviolet irradiation, oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide, or to dexamethasone, a synthetic glucocorticoid that represents a general class of physiological stress hormones. Each of the stress stimuli induced Sgk protein expression with differences in the kinetics and duration of induction and in subcellular localization. The environmental stresses, but not dexamethasone, stimulated Sgk expression through a p38/MAPK-dependent pathway.

Background And Purpose: Previous studies have addressed the prevalence of incidental findings in symptomatic and healthy adult populations. Our study aims to elucidate the prevalence of incidental findings in a healthy pediatric population.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 225 conventional brain MR imaging studies obtained during structural and functional brain imaging research in a cohort of neurologically healthy children (100 boys [44%] and 125 girls [56%]) ranging in age from younger than 1 month to 18 years.

A new equation is proposed to predict the lower heating value of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. The equation was developed by a statistical correlation of heating value and composition data for a variety of materials as reported in a number of sources. The model takes into account the carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, chlorine, and sulfur content of the material being combusted.
