Retrospective evaluation of frozen section use for thyroid nodules with a prior fine needle aspiration diagnosis of Bethesda II-VI: The Weill Cornell Medical College experience.

Objective: To evaluate the Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC)/New York Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH) experience with intraoperative frozen (IOF) section in the management of thyroid nodules with a fine needle aspiration (FNA) diagnosis of Bethesda II-VI and to analyze the cost and pathology benefit it provides.

Methods: The surgical and cytopathology files at WCMC/NYPH were searched within the time period of January 2008 to May 2013. A total of 435 thyroid specimens were identified for which both an FNA and subsequent IOF section was performed.

Tracheal cartilaginous sleeve association with syndromic midface hypoplasia.

Importance: We report 2 new cases of tracheal cartilaginous sleeve and perform a systematic literature review of all documented cases of this condition. We aim to increase awareness of this anomaly and provide recommendations for both intraoperative and postoperative management of patients with tracheal cartilaginous sleeve undergoing tracheostomy.

Observations: We studied the clinical records of 2 children with tracheal cartilaginous sleeves and short tracheas treated at our institution.

Intratonsillar abscess: 3 case reports and a review of the literature.

Intratonsillar abscess (ITA) is a rarely diagnosed infection occurring in both children and adults. Our objective is to review the presentation and management of intratonsillar abscesses. 3 case reports of intratonsillar abscess highlighting diagnostic, management and treatment strategies.
