Myocardial infarction after taking zolmitriptan.

We report the case of a patient with mild non-obstructive coronary artery disease who sustained an inferior wall myocardial infarction shortly after taking zolmitriptan as abortive therapy for migraine headaches. A Medline search was performed to review all reported cases of myocardial infarction related to migraine therapy with zolmitriptan and related medications. Zolmitriptan may cause myocardial infarction (MI) even in the absence of significant coronary artery disease.

Exogenous lipoid pneumonia caused by facial application of petrolatum.

Exogenous lipoid pneumonia is a well-described entity in the literature. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case that occurred secondary to external application of petrolatum to the face for erythrodermic psoriasis.

Effect of eptifibatide for acute coronary syndromes: rapid versus late administration--therapeutic yield on platelets (The EARLY Platelet Substudy).

Background: Receptors other than GP IIb/IIIa may mediate leukocyte-platelet-endothelial interactions that obstruct the microvasculature in acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and cause microinfarcts. The effect of eptifibatide on these receptors was investigated in a substudy of the EARLY Trial.

Methods: Patients received early (in the Emergency Department, n = 27) or late (12-24 h, n = 28) eptifibatide.
