This paper describes a software system for measuring cross-sectional area in reconstructed elliptical tubular structures. A measurement tool was developed using the freely available, cross-platform, open-source three-dimensional (3-D) Slicer environment. The software is easy to operate and allows the user to make multiple measurements on the fly.

Acquired diseases of the aorta and peripheral arteries are common. Owing to technical advances, magnetic resonance (MR) angiography has become the primary imaging modality for assessment of aortic and peripheral arterial disease. Contrast material-enhanced MR angiography is a rapid and robust technique that has emerged as the principal MR angiographic technique for evaluation of vascular disease.
