Longissimus muscles (LM) in sheep are important for animal scientists who study meat quality and translational researchers who study thoracolumbar spinal disease. Photoplethysmography (PPG) has emerged as a highly convenient and non-invasive technique for assessing heart rate and its variability in wearable health monitoring devices. However, a drawback lies in the energy demand of PPG systems which consequently increases the average power consumption of the wearable devices integrated with PPG sensors. Background: Under-vaccination is undoubtedly driving recent worldwide measles outbreaks, but undernutrition may also be playing a role in low- and middle-income countries. Studies have shown reduced immune response to vaccines in undernourished children but few have followed children beyond infancy, when they are more likely to be exposed to infectious diseases.

Methods: In the Venda Health Examination of Mothers, Babies and the Environment (VHEMBE) South African birth cohort study, we examined the relationship between undernutrition, as measured by stunting and other growth measures, and vaccine-specific serum antibody level to three different vaccine types: measles, tetanus and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib).

Background: The purpose of this intervention was to investigate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of an online weight loss program, EMPOWER, in rural, underserved communities.

As synthesized, nanocrystal surfaces are typically covered in coordinating organic ligands, and the degree of packing and order of these ligands are ongoing questions in the field of colloidal nanocrystals, particularly in the solution state. Recently, isothermal titration calorimetry coupled with H NMR has been used to probe ligand exchanges on colloidal quantum dots, revealing the importance of the composition of the ligand shell on exchange thermodynamics. Previous work has shown that the geometry and length of a ligand's aliphatic chain can influence the thermodynamics of exchange.

Purpose: This study analyzes the trajectory of youth emergency department or inpatient hospital visits for depression or anxiety in Illinois before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: We analyze emergency department (ED) outpatient visits, direct admissions, and ED admissions by patients ages 5-19 years coded for depression or anxiety disorders from 2016 through June 2023 with data from the Illinois Hospital Association COMPdata database. We analyze changes in visit rates by patient sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, hospital volume and type, and census zip code measures of poverty and social vulnerability.

TGF-β (transforming growth factor-β) signaling is involved in a myriad of cellular processes and its dysregulation has been implicated in many human diseases, including fibrosis and cancer. TGF-β transcriptional responses are controlled by tail phosphorylation of transcription factors SMAD2 and SMAD3 (mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 2/3). Therefore, targeted dephosphorylation of phospho-SMAD3 could provide an innovative mechanism to block some TGF-β-induced transcriptional responses, such as the transcription of , which encodes plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1).

Background: The aims of this study are to report our experience with treosulfan-based conditioning regimens for patients with non-malignant hematologic conditions, correlating clinical outcomes at different time points post-transplant with treosulfan exposure (AUC).

Ten-Eleven-Translocase (TET) enzymes contribute to the regulation of the methylome via successive oxidation of 5-methyl cytosine (5mC) to derivatives which can be actively removed by base-excision-repair (BER) mechanisms in the absence of cell division. This is particularly important in post-mitotic neurons where changes in DNA methylation are known to associate with changes in neural function. TET3, specifically, is a critical regulator of both neuronal differentiation in development and mediates dynamic changes in the methylome of adult neurons associated with cognitive function.
