Objectives: Tracheal intubation (TI) is a critical skill for PICU attending physicians to maintain. We hypothesize that attendings perform fewer TIs and have lower success rate in PICU programs with a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) fellowship.
Design: Retrospective study using the National Emergency Airway Registry for Children (NEAR4KIDS) from July 2016 to June 2020.
A key milestone in the field of On-Surface Synthesis (OSS) is the development of generic protocols for covalent coupling on inert surfaces. Typically, metal surfaces are used in OSS, but the strong interactions distort the intrinsic properties of the synthesized nanostructures and therefore compromise their applicability. Inert surfaces, on the other hand, preserve the nanostructures' unique properties, but present challenges during synthesis: Activation energies are generally higher than on metal surfaces, hence thermally activated coupling on inert surfaces is severely hampered by competing premature desorption of the reactants.

Methods: This single-center, retrospective chart review evaluated patients aged 4 weeks through 18 years treated with intravenous methadone for IWS. Children admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of a tertiary care children's hospital between August 2017 and July 2021 and treated for IWS for at least 48 hours were eligible for inclusion.
Study Objectives: Observational data suggest pediatric intensive care unit-related sleep and circadian disruption (PICU-SCD) affects many critically ill children. Multicenter trials exploring PICU-SCD have been impractical because measuring sleep in this setting is challenging. This study validates a questionnaire for caregivers to describe children's sleep in the PICU.

This retrospective study aims to analyze the baseline characteristics and factors associated with poor outcomes in patients with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) complicating respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. Using the Virtual Pediatric Systems data registry, patients under 2 years admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) were screened. Patients with documented RSV infection and NEC, intestinal perforation, noninfectious gastroenteritis/colitis, or pneumatosis intestinalis occurring around the timing of RSV bronchiolitis diagnosis were included.

Nudix hydrolases comprise a large and ubiquitous protein superfamily that catalyzes the hydrolysis of a nucleoside diphosphate linked to another moiety X (Nudix). possesses four Nudix domain-containing proteins (SACI_RS00730/Saci_0153, SACI_RS02625/Saci_0550, SACI_RS00060/Saci_0013/Saci_NudT5, and SACI_RS00575/Saci_0121). Deletion strains were generated for the four individual Nudix genes and for both Nudix genes annotated to encode ADP-ribose pyrophosphatases () and did not reveal a distinct phenotype compared to the wild-type strain under standard growth conditions, nutrient stress or heat stress conditions.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational cohort study of critically ill children undergoing TI for neurological indications in 53 international pediatric intensive care units and emergency departments.
Objectives: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and/or inhaled anesthetics (IAs) are considered in the management of asthma when refractory to conventional therapy. We aimed to compare the outcomes of these two modalities in asthma PICU care and determine associated survival to hospital discharge among patients in a United States database.
Design: Retrospective analysis using the Virtual Pediatric Systems (VPS, LLC) database.
Background: Determine if apneic oxygenation (AO) delivered via nasal cannula during the apneic phase of tracheal intubation (TI), reduces adverse TI-associated events (TIAEs) in children.
Methods: AO was implemented across 14 pediatric intensive care units as a quality improvement intervention during 2016-2020. Implementation consisted of an intubation safety checklist, leadership endorsement, local champion, and data feedback to frontline clinicians.
Background: Decisions about who should perform tracheal intubation in academic settings must balance the needs of trainees to develop competency in pediatric intubation with patient safety. Airway protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic may have reduced opportunities for trainees, representing an opportunity to examine the impact of shifting laryngoscopy responsibilities away from trainees.
