Pregnant women represent a high-risk population for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The presence of SARS-CoV-2 has been reported in placenta from infected pregnant women, but whether the virus influences placenta immune response remains unclear. We investigated the properties of maternal-fetal interface macrophages (MFMs) in a cohort of unvaccinated women who contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during their pregnancy.

Vertical transmission has been described following monkeypox virus (MPXV) infection in pregnant women. The presence of MPXV has been reported in the placenta from infected women, but whether pathogens colonize placenta remains unexplored. We identify trophoblasts as a target cell for MPXV replication.

The strains Marseille-Q7072 (= CSUR Q7072 = CECT 30604) and Marseille-Q7826 (= CSUR Q7826 = CECT 30727) were isolated from vaginal samples. As MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry failed to identify them, their genomes were directly sequenced to determine their taxogenomic identities. Both strains are anaerobic without any oxidase and catalase activity.

The composition of the vaginal microbiota is known to be influenced by various factors and to be associated with several disorders affecting women's health. Although metagenomics is currently a widely used method for studying the human microbiota, it has certain limitations, such as a lack of information on bacterial viability. It is therefore important to use culture-based methods such as culturomics.

Article Synopsis
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a significant global health issue, and while bacterial vaginosis (BV) isn't classified as an STI, it may heighten the risk of acquiring various STIs.
  • In a study with 290 women, those diagnosed with BV showed a higher prevalence of STIs (28%) compared to those without BV (20.4%); they also had more co-infections with multiple STI-causing microorganisms.
  • The findings suggest a potential link between BV and STIs, indicating more research is necessary to clarify this relationship and its implications for women's health.

Background: Two-thirds of pregnant women suffer from low-back pain during pregnancy, which leads to negative effects on quality of everyday life. According to the literature, an 8- to 12-week program of adapted physical activity during pregnancy has proven its efficacy in treatment of low-back pain and functional disability. Stretching Postural is a nondynamic technique using muscular contractions and stretches that act mainly on the back and that can be practiced alone.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of intrauterine balloon tamponade when used along with second-line uterotonics versus after the failure of second-line treatment in managing severe postpartum hemorrhage for women who had vaginal deliveries.
  • Conducted across 18 hospitals with 403 participants, it focuses on women with postpartum hemorrhage that did not respond to first-line treatment (oxytocin) and required additional intervention.
  • The primary outcome measured was the need for blood transfusions or excessive blood loss, with secondary outcomes including the frequency of significant blood loss, transfusions, invasive procedures, and ICU transfers.

Context: Second line methods are used to help obstetricians to identify abnormalities that reflect foetal acidosis. Since the use of a new technique of cardiotocography (CTG) interpretation based on the pathophysiology of the foetal period, the use of second-line tests has been questioned.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of specific training in CTG physiology-based interpretation on professional attitudes towards the use of second-line methods.

Circadian rhythms have been described in numerous tissues of living organisms and are necessary for homeostasis. The understanding of their role in normal and pathological pregnancy is only just emerging. It has been established that clock genes are expressed in the placenta of animals and humans, but the rhythmicity of placenta immune cells is not known.

Background: Exposure of men and women to environmental reprotoxic agents is associated with impaired fertility and pregnancy rates after assisted reproductive treatment (ART). Nevertheless, such exposures are generally not systematically assessed in current practice before ART and subfertile men are generally less explored than women. Our objective was to study subfertile men and women's level of knowledge about reprotoxic agents, their perception of their own risk factors and the correlation between perceived and identified circumstances of exposure.
