Methanol extracts from four Cameroonian medicinal plants (Bersama engleriana, Cupressus lusitanica, Vitellaria paradoxa, and Guibourtia tessmannii) were tested for their cytotoxic, antigonorrheal, and antireverse transcriptase activities using various assays.
All extracts contained phenolic and terpenoid compounds and showed dose-dependent reduction in proliferation of several cancer cell lines, with B. engleriana bark showing the most potency (IC(50) of 5.9μg/ml on certain cancer cells).
Additionally, extracts from B. engleriana and V. paradoxa exhibited significant antimicrobial effects against Nesseria gonorrhoeae and inhibited over 80%
