Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced health care services all around the globe, which is also reflected in the diagnosis and management of malignant melanoma (MM).
Objectives: We performed a retrospective assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the diagnosis of MM in order to evaluate the effects of the pandemic on MM care.
Materials & Methods: The Breslow thickness of excised MM and total number of patients with newly diagnosed MM who underwent surgery during the first year of the pandemic (March, 2020 to February, 2021; 227 subjects) were compared relative to a control period the year before (March, 2019 to February, 2020; 201 subjects), based on a retrospective study design.
"High" vagus nerve lesions are rare and refer to the region of the nerve from the jugular foramen through the branching of the auricular (Arnold's branch) and the pharyngeal branch. Rapid onset of vagus nerve palsy is observed predominantly in trauma, and rarely in inflammation. An insidious onset points to a neoplastic cause.

The overall prevalence of BCC is 3 times higher than that of SCC, but this can vary when looking at specific locations such as the hand, where SCC is much more common than BCC. Carcinoma (or epithelioma) cuniculatum is a rare variant of SCC.

Background: There are conflicting data on markers of disease progression and outcome of Merkel cell carcinoma.
Objective: We suggest to review histological and various immunohistochemical features of Merkel cell carcinoma specimens, in order to identify prognostic markers of clinical relevance.
Methods: We collected paraffin-embedded blocks from primary tumours from 26 patients diagnosed with Merkel cell carcinoma and determined the following: type and size of the tumour, number of mitoses, proliferation rate (Ki-67 antibody), (anti)-apoptosis rate (bcl-2, p53, p63 antibodies) and lymphatic vessel invasion (D2-40 antibody for podoplanin).
Laugier-Hunziker syndrome is a rare acquired disorder characterized by macular hyperpigmentation of the oral and occasionally genital mucosa as well as longitudinal melanonychia. It is considered a benign condition without systemic manifestation or malignant potential. We report on a woman who concomitantly developed Laugier-Hunziker syndrome and a carcinoma of the pancreas.
