Radiographs of 2550 orthodontic patients were evaluated for tooth agenesia dependent on the presence and the missing of third molars. Tooth agenesia (except third molars) was found in 248 patients (9.7%).

Whether fluoridation of drinking water would have an influence on orthodontic extraction therapy and especially on selection of extraction objects was inquired. Treatment results of 256 patients of a town with fluoridation of drinking water (Chemnitz) who had extraction of teeth under their orthodontic treatment, were interpreted and compared with these of a district without fluoridation of drinking water (Berlin). Evident differences concerning extraction frequency of the various species of teeth were noticed.

Request of adults for orthodontic treatment increases. In that cases requirements to the practitioner are of many kinds, especially if in consequence of secondary changes after lost of teeth the patient is not able, as in the past to accept his irregularities of teeth in relation to masticatory, physiognomic and phonetic function. Absolutely there is willingness to wear also removable orthodontic appliances.

A prognose of the support zone of the permanent dentition, introduced by Tränkmann and Raufmann in 1983, has been investigated. The results of the investigations confirm fundamentally the correlations set up by the authors. It is pointed at restrictions in connection with the reliability of these method of prognose.

The height of palate was determined on 400 and on 70 subjects treated orthodontically through the use of removable appliances and by extraction therapy, respectively. Initial and final patterns were used for measurements. A measuring method developed by the authors is described.
