Ensuring the complete removal of tumor tissue is the main challenge during resection operations. Recently, a technique of "indirect" contact laser surgery has been developed. In this study we assess the possibility of using such surgery for fluorescence image-guided tumor resection.

We present a theoretical model for laser cutting of biological tissue by a strongly heated fiber tip with a highly absorbing coating. A significant dependence of the cutting speed and cutting depth on the inclination angle of the scalpel to the surface when scattering exceeds absorption in the biological tissue is shown. Experimental evidences of this effect are presented.

We consider nanopatterning of dielectric substrates by harmonics of single powerful femtosecond pulses from a Ti:Sapphire laser. The nanopatterning is mediated by closely packed monolayers of polystyrene microspheres that act as microlenses at the surface. Observed modification of the material proceeds via ionization.

Colloidal particle lens array (CPLA) proved to be an efficient near-field focusing device for laser nanoprocessing of materials. Within CPLA, spherical particles do not act as independent microlenses. Due to the coupling of the spherical modes, the field near the clusters of spherical microparticles cannot be calculated by means of the superposition of Mie solutions for individual spheres.

Due to the formation of consulting and diagnostic polyclinics (CDP) in the Russian Armed Forces the significance of multipurpose diagnostical process in military garrison has met a considerable upgrade. The authors take into account the experience of CDP work and recommend to make a rational centralization of diagnostical process and determine the outlook for the development of diagnostical technologies adapted for different polyclinics, making a rational use of modern diagnostical equipment and enhancing the qualification of personnel occupied with diagnostical work.

The article analyses the changes which have taken place during the last years in the functioning of the system of specialized medical care in the Armed Forces of Russian Federation. A new definition of this kind of medical care is given in this article, as well as its contents, components, and methods of its further improvement. The authors stress the positive results which were achieved by large multipurpose medical establishments with organic specialized medico-diagnostical units.

A relationship between individual variations of the oxidative and acetylating metabolism rates of penbutolol, propranolol, acebutolol which produce a hypotensive effect was studied in patients with arterial hypertension. A study was performed in groups of patients, which comprised 22, 22, and 20 males, respectively. They all suffered from Stage II hypertensive disease.

Antipyrine test has been used to assess drug metabolism of the liver in 43 subjects, including 20 patients suffering from eczema and allergic dermatitis. "Rapid" oxidizers predominated among the patients; tissue barrier permeability for the test agent has been increased in eczema patients. These data should be borne in mind when prescribing the drugs that are subjected mainly to oxidizing metabolism, primarily antiinflammatory agents, to patients suffering from allergic dermatoses.

The mechanisms of plasmid effect on multiplication of bacterial populations were studied. 22 different plasmids of antibiotic resistance, colicinogenicity and hemolytic activity were tested for their effect on the lag period and generation time of 1 smooth and 2 rough strains of E coli in comparison to the clonal structure of the respective plasmid variants with respect to the property of formation of rough mutants and in comparison to the molecular weight of the plasmids. There was a good agreement between the lag period, generation time, relative content of rough mutants in the population and molecular weights of the respective plasmids.
