Human Parvovirus B19 (B19V) is rarely observed in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome. We report the case of a patient with rapidly progressive functional impotence of the limbs. B19V was detected in both blood and CSF samples.

Research Question: Is it possible to validate an accurate and reliable method for direct detection of SARS-CoV-2 by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in human semen fractions?

Design: This qualitative improvement study aimed to provide a prospective validation of SARS-CoV-2 detection in male semen. The SARS-CoV-2 genome was detected by multiplex real-time RT-PCR on patient samples that underwent routine semen analyses for infertility at the Center for Reproductive Medicine at the University Hospital of Clermont-Ferrand. COVID-19 systematic screening of asymptomatic haematopoietic stem cell donors: Less if often more.

From COVID pandemic spread until now, many HSCT unrelated donor registries recommend as a precaution a systematic COVID-19 testing for all donors during the precollection time. Literature is quite poor to support this systematic attitude. We report one sibling allogeneic HSCT which we proceeded despite a positive COVID test on related asymptomatic donor and summarize the all seven cases reported until now.

Human bocavirus has rarely been incriminated in fatal or life-threatening respiratory infections. We report a case of fatal disseminated infection with subacute lymphocytic myocarditis in a 13-month-old child. We screened 100 cerebrospinal fluid specimens for the human parechoviruses (HPeV) genome with the commercial parechovirus r-gene™ kit, which allows results to be available in a clinically relevant time frame. HPeV infection was diagnosed in 4 infants (<4 months) and all genotyped viruses were HPeV3.

TEM-158 (CMT-9), a new member of the CMT-type extended-spectrum beta-lactamases.

TEM-158 was found to include the substitutions previously observed for TEM-12 and TEM-35. This enzyme presented hydrolytic activity against ceftazidime and a high level of resistance against clavulanate, which can alter its detection. Its discovery highlights the need for accurate detection methods.

Orbital and muscle involvement in multiple myeloma.

Case Report: We report 2 cases of orbital plasmacytoma in patients with known multiple myeloma. Orbital spread with secondary maxillary sinus involvement is reported in the first case. Case 2 is the first report of immunoglobulin A kappa light chain multiple myeloma involving orbital recti muscles.

Over a period of 2 months, a 60-year-old man, a chicken breeder, experienced low back pain, lower limb weakness predominant on the right side, and urinary difficulties, leading progressively to a flaccid paraplegia with sphincter impairment.
