Carbamazepine (CBZ) is a pharmaceutical compound detected in various water resources. With a view to removing this contaminant, the applicability of non-thermal plasma (NTP) oxidation process has been widely tested in recent years. This study utilized NTP from a dielectric barrier discharge reactor in the treatment of CBZ.

The mechanisms of carbon sticking reactions to C36 and C-C80 fullerenes were investigated with molecular dynamics simulations (MD) using the Second-generation Reactive Empirical Bond Order (SREBO) and Adaptive Intermolecular Reactive Empirical Bond Order (AIREBO) potentials that were specifically optimized for carbon-carbon interactions. Results showed the existence of three possible sticking configurations where the projectile atom can stick either to one, two or three atoms of the target fullerene. They also showed that although the two potentials give similar magnitudes for the sticking cross-sections, they yield fairly different results as far as sticking mechanisms and configurations at thermal collision-energies, i.

Since its discovery, the concept of vaccination has continued to improve in order to offer better efficacy and tolerance. Local or even diffuse reactions are often reported, but no study reports results on the injection side. We carried out a prospective observational study on the COVID-19 vaccination centers of the Landes regional hospital consortium (GHT) over three weeks.

Seawater desalination is vital to our modern civilization. Here, we report that the carbon honeycomb (CHC) has an outstanding water permeability and salt rejection in the seawater desalination, as revealed by molecular dynamics simulations. More than 92% of ions are rejected by CHC at applied pressures ranging from 50 to 250 MPa.

Platinum (Pt), platinum-bismuth (PtBi), platinum-copper (PtCu) and platinum-bismuth-copper (PtCuBi) clusters were grown in a gas aggregation source (GAS) equipped with three in-plane plasma magnetrons located in a single region of the gas aggregation zone. The X-ray diffraction results have shown that PtCu clusters form alloys as the decrease of the lattice parameter occurs when the Cu atomic content increases. PtBi clusters do not form alloys, but the presence of secondary Bi oxide phases was detected.

Graphene is a key material of interest for the modification of physicochemical surface properties. However, its flat surface is a limitation for applications requiring a high specific surface area. This restriction may be overcome by integrating 2D materials in a 3D structure.

Transplantable CD34 hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) are currently isolated mainly from peripheral blood after mobilization with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). These mobilized CD34 cells have the potential to generate all blood cell types. For autologous transplantation, the minimal number of mobilized CD34 cells is 2 × 10 CD34 cells/kg body weight.

Carbon honeycomb has a nanoporous structure with good mechanical properties including strength. Here we investigate the adsorption and diffusion of hydrogen in carbon honeycomb via grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations and molecular dynamics simulations including strength. Based on the adsorption simulations, molecular dynamics simulations are employed to study the effect of pressure and temperature for the adsorption and diffusion of hydrogen.

Plasma increases activity: A one-step synthesis of Pt-C nanowire composites using a plasma co-deposition method is reported. Electrodes with a very low Pt loading can be obtained. Pt particles with sizes ranging from 1 to 2 nm are decorating the columnar carbon nanostructures because of strong interactions.

Constant flux atom deposition into a porous medium is shown to generate a dense overlayer and a diffusion profile. Scaling analysis shows that the overlayer acts as a dynamic control for atomic diffusion in the porous substrate. This is modeled by generalizing the porous diffusion equation with a time-dependent diffusion coefficient equivalent to a nonlinear rescaling of time.

DHAP regimen is commonly used in patients with lymphoma. It is routinely used in combination with the monoclonal anti-CD20 antibody rituximab (R-DHAP), particularly for peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) mobilization. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of rituximab on PBSC mobilization in patients with lymphoma receiving DHAP chemotherapy.

We analyzed the incidence, presenting features, risk factors of extramedullary (EM) relapse occurring in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) treated with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and chemotherapy by using a competing-risk method. In total, 740/ 806 (92%) patients included in three multicenter trials (APL91, APL93 trials and PETHEMA 96) achieved CR, of whom 169 (23%) relapsed, including 10 EM relapses. Nine relapses involved the central nervous system (CNS) and one the skin, of which two were isolated EM relapse.

Characterization of intermolecular interactions in terms of affinity, binding kinetics, stoichiometry, specificity, and thermodynamics can facilitate the selection of lead compounds in the discovery and development of protein therapeutics. KinExA (Sapidyne Instruments, Inc., Boise, ID) is a relatively new technology that is gaining use in characterizing molecular interactions, particularly with respect to antibody therapeutics.

Lipoxygenase catalysis depends in a critical fashion on the redox properties of a unique mononuclear non-heme iron cofactor. The isolated enzyme contains predominantly, if not exclusively, iron(II), but the catalytically active form of the enzyme has iron(III). The activating oxidation of the iron takes place in a reaction with the hydroperoxide product of the catalyzed reaction.

An internal standard method has been developed for the determination of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and/or its metabolic precursor choline. This approach couples the high separation efficiency of capillary electrophoresis with the sensitivity and selectivity of electrochemical detection at an enzyme-modified electrode. Indirect electrochemical detection is accomplished at a 25 microm platinum electrode modified by cross-linking the enzymes choline oxidase and acetylcholinesterase with glutaraldehyde.

Heat-induced conformational changes in lipoxygenase 3 were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry. The positions of the observed transitions were sensitive to the composition of the buffer. In particular, lipoxygenase 3 heated in carbonate buffer at pH 8.

Vaginal bleeding during aplasia can induce transfusion support, infection and discomfort. Oral and intramuscular hormonotherapy can be toxic and/or difficult to manage (mucositis). This single-center pilot study evaluated the efficacy and safety of leuprorelin (L) in preventing heavy vaginal bleeding in 20 nonmenopausal women with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma and foreseable therapy-induced thrombocytopenia.

Fifty-six patients with chemosensitive NHL were studied to assess factors affecting mobilization and peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection: all were mobilized with high-dose cyclophosphamide and etoposide and G-CSF 5 microg/kg/day. None of them had bone marrow involvement at the time of mobilization or a history of extended field irradiation. Previous chemotherapy regimens were divided into two groups: moderately myelotoxic chemotherapy (MMC) and highly myelotoxic chemotherapy (HMC).

Forty-two patients with refractory (15 patients) or relapsed (27 patients) Hodgkin's disease (HD) were included in a prospective single center study evaluating the efficacy of a regimen VIP combining etoposide 75 mg/m2/day days 1-5, ifosfamide 1.2 g/m2/day days 1-5 and cisplatinum 20 mg/m2/day days 1-5, one course every 4 weeks as salvage therapy in patients with refractory or relapsed Hodgkin's disease, potentially eligible for high-dose chemotherapy with reinjection of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). If patients were considered chemosensitive after two courses of VIP, high-dose chemotherapy followed by the reinjection of HSC was planned.
