S1-Leitlinie Lipödem.

Die vorliegende überarbeitete Leitlinie zum Lipödem wurde unter der Federführung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Phlebologie (DGP) erstellt und finanziert. Die Inhalte beruhen auf einer systematischen Literaturrecherche und dem Konsens von acht medizinischen Fachgesellschaften und Berufsverbänden. Die Leitlinie beinhaltet Empfehlungen zu Diagnostik und Therapie des Lipödems.

S1 guidelines: Lipedema.

The present, revised guidelines on lipedema were developed under the auspices of and funded by the German Society of Phlebology (DGP). The recommendations are based on a systematic literature search and the consensus of eight medical societies and working groups. The guidelines contain recommendations with respect to diagnosis and management of lipedema.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage after Subepidermal Tracer Injection Optimizes Results of Sentinel Lymph Node Labeling in Primary Breast Cancer.

Introduction: Our aim was to assess the practicability and reliability of a novel labeling regime for axillary sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in early breast cancer.

Methods: 362 patients with early breast cancer (bilateral in 9 cases, giving a total of 371 cases) underwent intradermal radio tracer injection with simultaneous manual lymphatic drainage. SLN biopsy was performed within 24 h.

Parent reported inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity as predictor of long-term weight loss after inpatient treatment in obese adolescents.

Objective: The long-term success of treatment for pediatric obesity is often unsatisfactory and variable. We aim to elucidate the influence of inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity on weight loss after inpatient treatment for adolescent obesity.

Method: We included 13-17 year old obese participants treated in three inpatient multidisciplinary treatment centers.

Development of a rapid LC-UV method for the investigation of chemical and metabolic stability of resveratrol oligomers.

Resveratrol, piceatannol, ε-viniferin, r-viniferin, r2-viniferin, and hopeaphenol are naturally occurring polyphenols, associated with potentially beneficial health effects. We developed a rapid liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (LC-UV) method, allowing for the simultaneous determination of these six compounds in biological samples in less than 2.5 min with standard LC equipment.

Modeling semantics of inconsistent qualitative knowledge for quantitative Bayesian network inference.

We propose a novel framework for performing quantitative Bayesian inference based on qualitative knowledge. Here, we focus on the treatment in the case of inconsistent qualitative knowledge. A hierarchical Bayesian model is proposed for integrating inconsistent qualitative knowledge by calculating a prior belief distribution based on a vector of knowledge features.

[Effects of a programme for structured outpatient follow-up care after inpatient rehabilitation of obese children and adolescents--a multicentre, randomized study].

Introduction: Inpatient rehabilitation is an important contributor to the treatment of child and adolescent obesity with comorbidity in Germany. Thus far outpatient follow-up care has not been subject to research. The main goal of this study is the development and longer-term evaluation of a programme for structured outpatient follow-up care by primary care physicians after inpatient rehabilitation of obese children and adolescents.

Iodine nutrition, nodular thyroid disease, and urinary iodine excretion in a German university study population.

We determined the influence of different nutritional factors on the urinary iodine excretion in an East German university population. First, we assessed iodine excretion in spot urine samples. Second, we measured iodine content in the university canteen meals, where approximately 20% of the probands had regular meals.

[Long-term follow-up and prognosis of work capacity in the early stage of chronic polyarthritis].

Objectives: Work disability (WD) in early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has not been extensively evaluated in Germany. Therefore, the occurrence of WD pension within the first seven years of RA and prognostic indicators of the first year including the duration of sick leave (SL) were analyzed.

Patients And Methods: Within the first year of RA according to the ACR 1987 criteria, 141 gainfully employed patients were entered into a prospective multicenter study (61% females, mean age 47 +/- 9 years, mean disease duration 6 +/- 3.

[Association of disease severity in the early course of rheumatoid arthritis and locus of control].

This study examines the applicability of the questionnaire "Fragebogen zur Erhebung von Kontrollüberzeugungen zu Krankheit und Gesundheit - KKG" to patients with early course of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or undifferentiated Arthritis (uA), and the relationship between the severity of the disease and locus of control by controlling for socio-demographic variables and personality characteristics. 326 patients with early RA or uA with a disease duration of less than 12 months (mean disease duration 6 months +/- 3.5, mean age 53 +/- 14) were assessed.

Translation-invariant pattern recognition based on Synfire chains.

Most of current neural network architectures are not suited to recognize a pattern at various displaced positions. This lack seems due to the prevailing neuron model which reduces a neuron's information transmission to its firing rate. With this information code, a neuronal assembly cannot distinguish between different combinations of its entities and therefore fails to represent the fine structure within a pattern.

Premorbid adjustment as predictor of outcome in schizophrenia: results of a prospective study.

The present prospective follow-up study of 163 schizophrenic patients admitted to hospital for the first time examined the relationship between premorbid adjustment and different measures of the 3-year course and outcome. The same instruments had been used in all phases of the study. The Premorbid Adjustment Scale was used to assess premorbid social functioning.

Synchronization without oscillatory neurons.

Experimental results suggest that neurons in the cortex synchronize their action potentials on the millisecond time scale. More importantly this binding expresses functional relationships between the neurons. A model of neuronal interactions is proposed in which simultaneous discharges of neurons develop through specialized synaptic circuits.

The Prognostic Scale by Strauss and Carpenter and its validity.

The Prognostic Scale by Strauss and Carpenter (1974) is thoroughly analysed and its predictive value is compared with other predictors, such as symptomatology, premorbid adjustment and social disability. A sample of 138 first-hospitalized schizophrenic patients serve as database. The total days of stationary treatment, the number of rehospitalizations, a complex criterion regarding the course of illness and the extent of social impairment were selected as outcome criteria.

Stability trends and longitudinal correlations of negative and positive syndromes within a three-year follow-up of initially hospitalized schizophrenics.

Our study investigates whether the distinction between positive and negative symptoms in schizophrenia--as discussed in the literature--can be confirmed by a factor analysis and whether such a distinction proves stability over time. In a further step, symptom factors are correlated to different external variables for the purpose of validation. Processed data cover 36 months obtained from a prospective 5-year follow-up study of 163 initially hospitalized schizophrenics.

Patient Rejection Scale: correlations with symptoms, social disability and number of rehospitalizations.

The Patient Rejection Scale (RPS), which was developed to assess rejecting attitudes and feelings of relatives toward mental patients, was administered to a German sample of 44 family members or significant others living with first-admitted schizophrenics. Both at admission (t0) and 6 months later (t6), the PRS was significantly correlated with the number of rehospitalizations during the first 3 years after admission. In comparison, the association between PRS scores and different measures of psychopathology during the 2-year follow-up period was weak.

Comparative costs of diagnosis and treatment in acute pharyngitis.

Throat cultures from 86 consecutive patients with a clinical diagnosis of pharyngitis yielded 23 (27%) that were positive for beta-hemolytic streptococci. The cost of using oral antibiotics and of obtaining and processing throat cultures was determined.
