Breast cancer, the most prevalent cancer affecting women worldwide, poses a significant cardio-oncological burden. Despite advancements in novel therapeutic strategies, anthracyclines, HER2 antagonists, and radiation remain the cornerstones of oncological treatment. However, each carries a risk of cardiotoxicity, though the molecular mechanisms underlying these adverse effects differ.

Dogs distinguish authentic human emotions without being empathic.

Several recent studies have investigated how dogs perceive human emotional expressions. They have measured the reactions of dogs when exposed to stimuli presented in different modalities, such as photographs, audio recordings or odor samples, or to humans simulating various emotional situations. In the current study, dog owners were manipulated to genuinely experience emotions of happiness, sadness, and neutrality.

Exploring Levels of Interspecies Interaction: Expectations, Knowledge, and Empathy in Human-Dog Relationships.

This exploratory study examines the complex dynamics of human-dog relationships and their impact on interspecies communication. Twelve human-dog dyads were studied using narrative interviews to explore how people perceive their relationships with their dogs. In addition, the dyads engaged in a cooperative task to observe interaction dynamics during everyday activities.

Husk Separation (Kubessa Method) Impacts the Aging Chemistry of Beer.

The removal of husks before the mashing process, also known as the Kubessa method, is an established brewing practice often positively associated with smoothness and better flavor-stability of beer. Empirical evidence on the effect of the Kubessa method on beer, however, has been lacking. Similarly, our study's comprehensive analysis of established brewing attributes revealed that traditional methods do not fully capture the impact of husk separation in beer brewing.

Substitution-Induced Mechanistic Switching in SAr-Warheads for Cysteine Proteases.

The aim of this study was to investigate the transition from non-covalent reversible over covalent reversible to covalent irreversible inhibition of cysteine proteases by making delicate structural changes to the warhead scaffold. To this end, dipeptidic rhodesain inhibitors with different -terminal electrophilic arenes as warheads relying on the SAr mechanism were synthesized and investigated. Strong structure-activity relationships of the inhibition potency, the degree of covalency, and the reversibility of binding on the arene substitution pattern were found.

Guide dogs hold the potential to increase confidence and independence in visually impaired individuals. However, the success of the partnership between a guide dog and its handler depends on various factors, including the compatibility between the dog and the handler. Here, we conducted interviews with 21 guide dog owners to explore determinants of compatibility between the dog and the owner.

[Strengthening the Role of Public Health Service: a Comparison of the Public Health Service Quota Selection Procedures in Germany].

To combat the shortage of skilled workers in the Public Health Service sector, the federal states of Bavaria, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saxony-Anhalt have a study placement system for students of Public Health Service. A comparison of the selection procedures showed that three out of the four federal states (Bavaria, Hesse, and Rhineland-Palatinate) used a two-step procedure. In the second step, eligibility for was determined based on interviews to assess social and communication skills as well as personal aptitude of the applicants to study and work in the Public Health Service.

Comparison of different density functional theory methods for the calculation of vibrational circular dichroism spectra.

Another way to assess such interactions is to define the social context of the situations explicitly and categorize them according to their affective content. Here we investigate how humans assess aggressive, playful and neutral interactions between members of three species: human children, dogs and macaques.

Individual differences in the ability to process language have long been discussed. Much of the neural basis of these, however, is yet unknown. Here, we present the synthesis of Fmoc-protected azacyclonon-5-yne (Fmoc-ACN) as the first cyclononyne suitable for iSPAAC.

Alpha power during task performance predicts individual language comprehension.

Alpha power attenuation during cognitive task performing has been suggested to reflect a process of release of inhibition, increase of excitability, and thereby benefit the improvement of performance. Here, we hypothesized that changes in individual alpha power during the execution of a complex language comprehension task may correlate with the individual performance in that task. We tested this using magnetoencephalography (MEG) recorded during comprehension of German sentences of different syntactic complexity.
