Self-reported attitudes and behaviors of general surgery residents about ethical academic practices in test taking.

Background: A correlation exists between people who engage in academic dishonesty as students and unethical behaviors later as professionals. Academic dishonesty has been assessed among medical students, but not among general surgery residents. We sought to describe the attitudes of general surgery residents with regard to ethical practices in test taking.

Fatty infiltration of the gastrocsoleus after tendo-achilles lengthening and gastrocnemius recession in a rabbit model.

Background: Tendo-Achilles lengthening (TAL) and gastrocnemius recession (GR) are components of the operative treatment for certain foot conditions. We investigated changes in rabbit gastrocsoleus weight, volume, and percent fat resulting from TAL, GR, and immobilization.

Materials And Methods: Eighteen rabbits were randomized into three groups.

Use of an acellular regenerative tissue matrix in combination with vacuum-assisted closure therapy for treatment of a diabetic foot wound.

Unlabelled: Diabetic foot ulcers can be difficult to treat for a variety of reasons, and may result in amputation. The use of skin grafts can often be a useful method of achieving wound coverage and subsequent healing of diabetic foot ulcers; however, this method of treatment requires creation of a donor site wound that adds to the patient's overall wound burden. Application of an acellular regenerative tissue matrix may eliminate the need for harvesting a skin graft in order to cover a nonhealing wound.

Correlation of pain scores, analgesic use, and beck anxiety inventory scores during hospitalization in lower extremity amputees.

Post amputation pain can be debilitating for patients and families. Chronic pain is a common phenomenon after lower extremity amputation, occurring in up to 80% of this population. The purpose of this pilot study was to correlate post amputation pain scores to opioid analgesic consumption and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) scores.
