HDR brachytherapy salvage for nodular prostate fossa recurrence: A mechanistic review and initial report of clinical outcomes.

Purpose: Biochemical recurrence (BCR) occurs in approximately 30% of men after upfront prostatectomy (RP) for prostate cancer. Salvage fossa brachytherapy offers a promising local treatment option. Here we describe a salvage technique and report initial outcomes.

Systemic Dyslipidemia in Age-related Macular Degeneration: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Topic: Though lipid and cholesterol dyshomeostasis is thought to contribute to the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), there is no consensus regarding which elements of systemic lipid homeostasis are perturbed in AMD. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, an update to that performed by Wang et al in 2016, we characterized serum lipoprotein profiles in patients with AMD and its various stages.

Clinical Relevance: These findings may identify novel therapeutic approaches for AMD, a leading cause of blindness among older adults in the industrialized world.

Changes in Burnout and Moral Distress Among Veterans Health Administration (VA) Physicians Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Background: We investigated the impacts of workload, resources, organizational satisfaction, and psychological safety on changes in physician burnout and moral distress among physicians during the early pandemic.

Methods: We obtained national administrative and survey data on burnout, moral distress, organizational satisfaction, psychological safety, COVID-19 burden, and state-level restrictions for 11,877-14,246 Veterans Health Administration (VA) physicians from 2019 and 2020. We regressed the changes in burnout and moral distress on the changes in reasonable workload, appropriate job resources, organizational satisfaction, and psychological safety, controlling for COVID-19 burden and restrictions, and individual and medical center characteristics.

Scoping Review of Pulmonary Telemedicine Consults: Current Knowledge and Research Gaps.

Telemedicine consults, including video consults, telephone consults, electronic consults, and virtual conferences, may be particularly valuable in the management of chronic pulmonary diseases, but there is limited guidance on best practices for pulmonary telemedicine consults. This scoping review aims to identify, characterize, and analyze gaps in the published literature on telemedicine consults health providers use to manage patients with chronic pulmonary diseases. HIV/AIDS Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors of Construction Workers in China.

The objective of the study was to describe HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitudes, risk behaviors, and sources of information among construction workers in China. A cross-sectional survey of 458 construction workers was conducted among 4 construction sites in Shenyang city in 2006. All 458 participants were individually interviewed in a private setting by a trained team of medical researchers using a structured questionnaire, which included questions on general personal information and the knowledge, attitudes, practice questions and the favorable mode of health education.

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy (ARVD/C) is characterized by progressive degeneration of the right ventricular myocardium, ventricular arrhythmias, fibrous-fatty replacement, and increased risk of sudden death. Mutations in 6 genes, including 4 encoding desmosomal proteins (Junctional plakoglobin (JUP), Desmoplakin (DSP), Plakophilin 2, and Desmoglein 2), have been identified in patients with ARVD/C. Mutation analysis of 66 probands identified 4 variants in DSP; V30M, Q90R, W233X, and R2834H.
