Limited research exists for content alignment of evidence-based medicine (EBM) and pharmacotherapy courses. Vaccine perceptions in a free urban clinic for underserved, uninsured adults.

Background: Adult vaccine rates remain low despite public health efforts. Despite the likelihood that underserved patients face more barriers to vaccination, little is known on the perceptions underserved patients have about vaccines as a whole. Additional information could guide health care providers in efforts to improve adult vaccination rates in the medically underserved population.

Using an Algorithm to Assess Vaccination Among Patients Who Attended a Pharmacy Student-Driven Statewide Free Health Screening.

Background: National vaccination rates remain below goals. Given the geographic availability of community pharmacies, pharmacists are uniquely positioned to provide immunizations. However, many pharmacists may not be proactively recommending vaccinations to patients.

Implementation of a medication therapy management program in a primary care clinic.

Objective: This study examined the use of a medication therapy management (MTM) program by clinic-embedded pharmacists within a primary care clinic primarily by evaluating the impact on patient identification for pharmacy services. Secondary outcomes included characterizing intervention type, targeted drugs and disease states, and barriers to successful interventions, SETTING: Primary care clinic.

Practice Description: CoxHealth Center Steeplechase is a primary care clinic of 13 providers with a clinic-embedded pharmacist, pharmacy residents, and student pharmacists providing chronic disease state management under collaborative practice agreements.

Impact of Pharmacist-Physician Collaboration on Osteoporosis Treatment Rates.

Background: The vast majority of women at high risk for osteoporotic fractures are not treated, despite known significant clinical and economic consequences of this prevalent condition. To date, this is the first study of this size and duration to examine the role of pharmacists in management of osteoporosis in a family medicine clinic.

Objective: To compare the initiation or continuation of prescription antifracture therapy in high-risk patients with collaborative pharmacist-physician to physician-only management; secondarily, to evaluate recommendation rates for antifracture therapy and calcium and vitamin D.

The Evolving Role of Long-Term Pharmacotherapy for Opioid-Induced Constipation in Patients Being Treated for Noncancer Pain.

Nationally, the prescription of opioids for acute and chronic pain is increasing. As opioid use continues to expand and become of increased concern for health-care practitioners, so do the adverse effects and long-term management of those effects. Opioid-induced constipation (OIC) presents a unique challenge because tolerance does not develop to this particular adverse effect, making chronic pain management a delicate balance between relieving pain and preventing long-term adverse effects such as constipation and dependence.
