Article Synopsis
  • Small-scale industries (SSI) face challenges with workers often being temporary and lacking proper training, leading to unnoticed work hazards like musculoskeletal disorders due to inadequate workplace setups.
  • The study aims to introduce a holistic methodology to identify and reduce awkward postural risks in SSIs, using a case study in the South Indian Pump industry as an example.
  • Results from the ergonomic evaluations show that the new approach significantly improved working conditions by reducing key risk assessment scores without requiring substantial investment.

The aim is to develop a computer-based assessment model for novel dynamic postural evaluation using RULA. The present study proposed a camera-based, three-dimensional (3D) dynamic human pose estimation model using 'BlazePose' with a data set of 50,000 action-level-based images. The model was investigated using the Deep Neural Network (DNN) and Transfer Learning (TL) approach.
