Towards the beginning of the twentieth century, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors were described as neoplasms characterized by myofibroblastic spindle cells with an infiltrate of inflammatory cells. These rare tumors occur mainly in children and young adults with a preferential pulmonary and abdominal location. They have intermediate biological potency with a tendency to local recurrence and rarely metastasize.
