Although nickel is found in the active sites of a class of superoxide dismutase (SOD), nickel complexes with non-peptidic ligands normally do not catalyze superoxide degradation, and none has displayed activity comparable to those of the best manganese-containing SOD mimics. Here, we find that nickel complexes with polydentate quinol-containing ligands can exhibit catalytic activity comparable to those of the most efficient manganese-containing SOD mimics. The nickel complexes retain a significant portion of their activity in phosphate buffer and under operando conditions and rely on ligand-centered redox processes for catalysis.

January 2025
Purpose: To evaluate cancer patients' willingness to pay for exercise services and oncology health professionals' perception of patients' willingness to pay.
Methods: A mixed-methods design was used. Online questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were administered to people with any type of cancer and oncology health professionals delivering clinical care.
In almost all cancers, the p53 pathway is disabled and cancer cells survive. Hence, it is crucially important to induce cell death independent of p53 in the treatment of cancers. The transcription factor E2F1 is controlled by binding of the tumor suppressor pRB, and induces apoptosis by activating the gene, an upstream activator of p53, when deregulated from pRB by loss of pRB function.

Despite a robust body of research on potential solutions and next steps, the translation of these efforts to patient care has been limited. Improvement initiatives are still narrowly focused on selective themes such as diagnostic stewardship, preventing overdiagnosis, and enhancing clinical reasoning without comprehensively addressing vulnerable systems and processes surrounding diagnosis.

However, few health care organizations (HCOs) have integrated these strategies into routine operations. To address this gap, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality released "Measure Dx: A Resource To Identify, Analyze, and Learn From Diagnostic Safety Events" in 2022.

This study was designed to identify perspectives and experiences of nurse practitioner-led PC teams as they implemented a behavioral health integration (BHI) model into their Federally Qualified Health Center PC practices.
Methods: We conducted in-depth qualitative interviews with staff members at three clinic sites that implemented BHI.
Housing instability and drug misuse are two of the United States' most pressing challenges, each bearing profound health and societal consequences. A crucial yet largely underexplored question is the extent to which the opioid crisis has intensified housing instability. Our study ventures into this relatively uncharted nexus, investigating how the OxyContin reformulation, a pivotal moment in the U.

In response, vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) generate enhanced contractile forces. Our previous findings demonstrate that VSMC volume is enhanced in response to increased matrix rigidity, but our understanding of the mechanisms regulating this process remain incomplete.

Given perceptions about the potential effect of cannabis on individuals with mental health disorders, there is a need to understand the association of cannabis laws with psychotropic use.
Objective: To investigate the association of medical and recreational cannabis laws and dispensary openings with the dispensing of psychotropic medications used to treat mental health disorders in the US.
Human T-cell leukemia virus type-1 (HTLV-1) is the etiological agent of adult T-cell leukemia (ATL). The trans-activator protein Tax of HTLV-1 plays crucial roles in leukemogenesis by promoting proliferation of virus-infected cells through activation of growth-promoting genes. However, critical target genes are yet to be elucidated.

Objective: To examine how prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs), pain management clinic regulations, initial prescription duration limits, and mandatory continued medical education affected total and high-dose prescribing.
Design: A county-level multiple-policy difference-in-difference event study framework.
Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is the causative agent of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma. The oncogene product Tax of HTLV-I is thought to play crucial roles in leukemogenesis by promoting proliferation of the virus-infected cells through activation of growth-promoting genes. These genes code for growth factors and their receptors, cytokines, cell adhesion molecules, growth signal transducers, transcription factors and cell cycle regulators.

Prior interventions lack attention to culturally-nuanced stress phenomena (Superwoman Schema [SWS], contextualized stress, and network stress), which are positively and significantly associated with unhealthy eating and sedentary behavior.
Purpose: The HARMONY Study is designed to test a culturally tailored mindfulness-based stress management intervention to address SWS, contextualized stress, and network stress as potential barriers to adherence to healthy exercise and eating goals.
To address our climate emergency, "we must rapidly, radically reshape society"-Johnson & Wilkinson, All We Can Save. In science, reshaping requires formidable technical (cloud, coding, reproducibility) and cultural shifts (mindsets, hybrid collaboration, inclusion). We are a group of cross-government and academic scientists that are exploring better ways of working and not being too entrenched in our bureaucracies to do better science, support colleagues, and change the culture at our organizations.

To investigate potential factors involved in obesity-related reproductive endocrine dysfunction, we conducted a secondary analysis of inflammatory markers in a sample of normal weight women exposed to a one-month eucaloric high-fat diet (HFD), which, as reported earlier, induced the relative hypogonadotropic hypogonadism characteristic of Reprometabolic Syndrome. Eighteen healthy women with a BMI between 18.

While research suggests the feasibility and efficacy of teletherapy, there is limited investigation into couple teletherapy's impact on satisfaction and therapeutic alliance. This study aimed to address this gap by examining changes in couple satisfaction during tele- and in-person therapy sessions over 12 sessions and exploring whether therapeutic alliance development mediates these changes.

It is unknown whether administration of a low fat eating plan, regardless of weight loss, will improve reproductive axis function in women with obesity. To develop an acceptable and feasible low fat eating plan for a diverse group of reproductive aged women with obesity.

Despite national scientific efforts to advance definition, measurement and interventions for diagnostic error, diagnosis in mental health is not well represented in this ongoing work. We aimed to summarise the current state of research on diagnostic errors in mental health and identify opportunities to align future research with the emerging science of diagnostic safety.
