Intimal tear is rarely circumferential in aortic dissection. In such an instance, intimal intussusception may occur. This exposes the patient to the additional risk of severe aortic regurgitation, blockage of the left main coronary artery ostium, or both in proximal intimal intussusception in ascending aortic dissection.

Objective: To examine the effectiveness of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in patients with treatment-resistant posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with co-occurring major depression.

Methods: We examined data on 20 male combat related PTSD patients admitted to the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinic of Gülhane Military Medical Academy, Ankara, Turkey between January 2011 and December 2012 that received rTMS in addition to medical therapy. We obtained the data by examining the case files and hospital computer records.

Electromagnetic levitation platform for wireless study of insect flight neurophysiology.

An electromagnetic levitation platform for use in a light emitting diode (LED) arena based virtual reality environment was developed for wireless recording of neural and neuromuscular signals from the flight related muscle groups in Manduca sexta. The platform incorporates the use of Early Metamorphosis Insertion Technology to implant recording electrodes into the flight muscles of late stage pupal moths. Analysis of the insects' response to changes in the LED arena rotation direction indicate that this setup could be used to perform a variety of flight behavior studies during yaw maneuvers.

A comparative study of the peripheral doses from a linear accelerator with a multileaf collimator system.

This study presents a comparison of peripheral doses (PDs) measured using an ionisation chamber with treatment planning system (TPS) data and a Monte Carlo (MC) simulation of a 6-MV photon beam. The ion chamber measurements and MC simulation produced similar results for all out-of-field distances and field sizes considered in this study. For the 0° and 90° collimation angles, the average local per cent dose differences between the MC and TPS calculations were 2.

Changes in heart rate variability before and after ECT in the treatment of resistant major depressive disorder.

To synthesize a new series of 5-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-3-[(4-substitutedpiperazin-1-yl)methyl]-1,3,4-oxadiaxole-2-thiones for their anti-inflammatory activity.The title compounds synthesized by Mannich reaction of prepared 5-(3,4-dichloro-phenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thione and appropriate substituted piperazine derivatives. The structures of the compounds were confirmed by IR, NMR and elemental analyses.

Prevalence of cerebrovascular disease: a door-to-door survey in West Anatolia.

The aim of this study was to demonstrate the prevalence of cerebrovascular disease (CVD), and its relation to age, education, gender, and other risk factors in the city of Denizli, Turkey. The study was performed between 2010 and 2011 in the city center, where 138,000 inhabitants >45 years were included in the research. 2,441 inhabitants were selected by cluster sampling method.

Schwann cell migration and neurite outgrowth are influenced by media conditioned by epineurial fibroblasts.

The regenerative capacity of the peripheral nervous system is largely related to Schwann cells undergoing proliferation and migration after injury and forming growth-supporting substrates for severed axons. Novel data show that fibroblasts to a certain extent regulate the pro-regenerative behavior of Schwann cells. In the setting of peripheral nerve injury, the fibroblasts that form the epineurium come into close contact with both Schwann cells and peripheral axons, but the potential influence on these latter two cell types has not been studied yet.

Natural radioactivity in bottled mineral and thermal spring waters of Turkey.

Radiological assessment of bottled mineral waters and thermal spring waters collected from various natural sources in Turkey was carried out using gross alpha and gross beta counting techniques. Method for non-optical quantification of in situ local soft tissue biomechanics.

Soft tissues exhibit significant biomechanical changes as they grow, adapt, and remodel under a variety of normal and pathogenic stimuli. Biomechanical measurement of intact soft tissues is challenging because of its large strain and nonlinear behavior. Tissue distention through applied vacuum pressure is an attractive method for acquiring local biomechanical information minimally invasive and non-destructive, but the current requirement for optical strain measurement limits its use.

Melanoma arising in chronic ulceration associated with lymphoedema.

Chronic ulceration can be complicated by development of a malignancy. The most frequent associated malignances are squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, although melanoma, leiomyosarcoma and adenocarcinoma are less commonly seen. Chronic lymphoedema may also predispose to development of some malignancies, including lymphangiosarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma and Kaposi's sarcoma.

Perinatal outcomes and risk factors in adolescent and advanced age pregnancies: comparison with normal reproductive age women.

Purpose: To compare renal injury and vascular resistance between standard and tubeless percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in patients who had undergone procedures for kidney stone by using colored Doppler ultrasonography (CDUS).

Patients And Methods: All consecutive PCNLs were evaluated between 2009 and 2011. Patients in whom access was in the lower pole, and who regularly visited our outpatient clinic were enrolled in the study.

Traditional canine training methods rely solely on subjective visual observations made by trainers. We propose a canine body-area-network (cBAN) to incorporate context-aware sensing with objective detection algorithms to augment the sensitivity and specificity of human trainer's awareness of the dogs they are training.

Line following terrestrial insect biobots.

The present day technology falls short in offering centimeter scale mobile robots that can function effectively under unknown and dynamic environmental conditions. Insects, on the other hand, exhibit an unmatched ability to navigate through a wide variety of environments and overcome perturbations by successfully maintaining control and stability. In this study, we use neural stimulation systems to wirelessly navigate cockroaches to follow lines to enable terrestrial insect biobots.
