Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps are efficient elicitors of secondary metabolites. To investigate the influence of LED light on steviol glycosides (SGs) and phenolic compounds biosynthesis, stevia shoots were cultured under the following LED lights: white-WL, blue-B, red-R, 70% red and 30% blue-RB, 50% UV, 35% red and 15% blue-RBUV, 50% green, 35% red and 15% blue-RBG, 50% yellow, 35% red and 15% blue-RBY, 50% far-red, 35% red and 15% blue-RBFR and white fluorescent light (WFl, control). RBG light stimulated shoots' biomass production.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the effects of nature-based interventions (NBIs) on the self-esteem, well-being, and relaxation of elderly individuals in Poland over an 8-week period.
  • Both active and passive NBI programs were implemented, with assessments conducted before and after using established scales and physiological measures.
  • Results indicated significant improvements in self-esteem and well-being across both groups, with passive programs in garden settings showing notably greater benefits, highlighting the importance of green spaces for elderly care.

Sweet briar (Rosa rubiginosa) belongs to the group of wild roses. Under natural conditions it grows throughout Europe, and was introduced also into the southern hemisphere, where it has efficiently adapted to dry lands. This review focuses on the high adaptation potential of sweet briar to soil drought in the context of global climatic changes, especially considering steppe formation and desertification of agricultural, orchard, and horticultural areas.

Light quality is essential in in vitro cultures for morphogenesis process. Light emitting diodes system (LED) allows adjustment as desired and the most appropriate light spectrum. The study analyzed the influence of different LED light quality on the balance of endogenous phytohormones and related compounds (PhRC) in in vitro multiplied axillary shoots of .

The tree ferns are an important component of tropical forests. In view of this, the enhancement of in vitro production of these plants is needed. Thus, the effect of different light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as well as control fluorescent lamps (Fl) and a 3-week-long period of darkness at the beginning of in vitro culture on micropropagation of the tree fern Sternb.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how different types of LED lights affect the growth and metabolism of Bolus ex Hook. f. plants in controlled environments.
  • The researchers tested 100% red, 100% blue, a mix of red and blue, and fluorescent lights, measuring sugar content and photosynthetic health after 40 days.
  • Results showed that while glucose was the most abundant sugar, red light harmed photosynthesis, whereas the red-blue combination improved plant quality and photosystem efficiency.

In vitro callus cultures of Verbena officinalis L. were maintained on solid Murashige and Skoog medium, enriched with 1 mg dm BA and 1 mg dm IBA under LED lights (red, blue, red/blue 70%/30%), in darkness and under control fluorescent lamps. The measurements of 2 phenylpropanoid glycosides (verbascoside and isoverbascoside) and 23 phenolic acids were performed in methanolic extracts from the biomass collected after 2-, 3- and 4-week growth cycles using the HPLC-DAD method.

The aim of this work was to analyse the response of to salinity induced by different concentrations of sodium chloride and calcium chloride (0, 25, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mM). Besides salt accumulation and pH changes, other parameters were investigated including photosynthetic activity, leaf water content, the dynamics of necrosis and chlorosis appearance and leaf drying. The study was complemented with microscopic analysis of changes in leaf anatomy.
