Background: The sodium/glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i) and glucagon-like-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) are antidiabetic agents effective both in hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) reduction (with a low risk of hypoglycemia) and cardiovascular event prevention. In patients with type 2 diabetes, the add-on value of combination therapy of GLP-1RA and an SGLT-2i seems promising.

Aim: To investigate whether the efficacy of GLP-1RA and SGLT-2i combination observed in randomized controlled trials translates into therapeutic benefits in the Croatian population during routine clinical practice and follow-up.

Introduction: This observational study aimed to assess the effectiveness of lixisenatide as add on therapy to basal insulin in diabetic type 2 patients previously treated with different insulin regimes.

Subacute granulomatous thyroiditis is an inflammatory thyroid condition that is presumed to be caused by a viral infection or postviral inflammatory process. It is characterized by neck pain, usually a tender diffuse goiter, and thyrotoxicosis. A case is presented of subacute granulomatous thyroiditis in an adult woman who had no neck pain but presented with morning stiffness in the small joints of the right hand, intermittent abdominal pain, malaise, fever, and myalgia.

Three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound plays an important role in obstetrics, predominantly for assessing fetal anatomy. Presenting volume data in a standard anatomic orientation valuably assists both ultrasonographers and pregnant patients to recognize the anatomy more readily. Three-dimensional ultrasound is advantageous in studying normal embryonic and/or fetal development, as well as providing information for families at risk for specific congenital anomalies by confirming normality.

Introduction: The key benefit of 4D ultrasound lies in providing real-time 3D images of embryonic or fetal movements, previously limited by technological advancement.

Aim: To classify types of first trimester embryonic and fetal movements in normal pregnancies as seen by 4D sonography.

Results: Three types of movements can be visualized in the first trimester: gross body between seven and eight weeks, limb movements after ten weeks and complex limb movements after 11 weeks of gestation.

Aim: To assess the ability of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasonography for improvement of antenatal detection of limb deformities.

Nine patients with poor-prognosis, alkylator-refractory stage III multiple myeloma (MM) were treated with a 23-h continuous infusion (CI) of a compatible mixture of vincristine (VCR) and epirubicin (EPI) daily for 4 days along with a daily 1-h infusion of high-dose methyl prednisolone (MP) to total of 5 days (VEMP); cycles were repeated every 2 weeks when possible, usually on an outpatient basis. WHO grade 3 or 4 neutropenia and infection were the predominant toxicities encountered, necessitating some treatment delays and dose reductions. Two patients died during treatment.

One hundred and seventeen patients with cerebral glioma (Kernohan grades III and IV) were treated with adjuvant chemotherapy using procarbazine (PCB), CCNU and vincristine (VCR) following whole head irradiation. Cell cultures were prepared from 40 patients in this series and their sensitivity to each cytotoxic drug was assessed in a mictotitration assay with 35 S-methionine incorporation as the end point. Twenty-two of forty (55%) patients responded to PCB and/or CCNU in vitro, and sensitivity to these drugs was linked with increased RFI, whilst sensitivity to VCR was not.

The clinical and endocrine effects of low-dose aminoglutethimide without hydrocortisone in patients with advanced breast cancer were investigated. In a dose escalation study low-dose aminoglutethimide alone (62.5-125 mg twice daily) was as effective as conventional doses with hydrocortisone in lowering serum oestrone and oestradiol concentrations but caused minimum adrenal inhibition, as assessed by serum dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate.
