Evaluation of anatomical and functional success in canalicular laceration repair using anterior segment optical coherence tomography and dacryoscintigraphy.

Purpose: To assess the anatomical and functional outcomes in patients who underwent surgery for canalicular laceration and did not experience significant epiphora, and to compare these outcomes with contralateral uninjured eye.

Method: Dacryoscintigraphy, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT), MUNK scores, and a satisfaction questionnaire were administered to 24 patients who had canalicular laceration repair without significant epiphora and had a minimum of 6 months of follow-up. Tear meniscus height (TMH), depth (TMD), and area (TMA) were measured using anterior segment OCT and compared with the values in the uninjured eye.

Use of a dexamethasone implant to treat macular edema following pars plana vitrectomy and removal of the primary epiretinal membrane.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of an intravitreal dexamethasone (DEX) implant for the treatment of macular edema (ME) following pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and removal of the primary epiretinal membrane (ERM) and to assess the impact of the integrity of the ellipsoid zone (EZ) and disorganization of the retinal inner layer (DRIL) grade on visual and anatomical outcomes.

Methods: Forty-two pseudophakic patients who developed ME following PPV and removal of the primary stage 2-3 ERM were included. Patients were divided into two groups when ME was diagnosed via spectral domain optic coherence tomography (SD-OCT).

Thyroid surgery in children: a single-center experience of 20 years.

Objective: Thyroidectomy is a relatively uncommon procedure in pediatric patients. We aimed to review our 20-year experience of thyroid surgery.

Methods: A total of 39 patients who underwent thyroid surgery from 2003 to 2023 were retrospectively evaluated.

Finding of the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is highly expressed in prostate cancer (PC) cells that have made it possible to evaluate the patients with PC with a single imaging method. 68 Ga-PSMA PET/CT is now part of the routine in patients with PC. After several years of clinical experience with PSMA tracers, the specificity is satisfactory; however, concerns about the specificity are raising day by day due to the newly laid out nonprostatic malignant and benign lesions with high PSMA expression.

Supercapacitive properties of carbazole-containing cobalt(II) phthalocyanines/reduced graphene oxide composites.

This study aims to compare the effect of substituents (position and number) and reduced graphene oxide on the supercapacitive properties of cobalt(II) phthalocyanines. For this purpose, three new tetra- and octa-substituted cobalt(II) phthalocyanines bearing 9-carbazol-2-yloxy groups on peripheral or non-peripheral positions (1-3) were synthesized. The characterization of the resultant cobalt(II) phthalocyanines was carried out by applying several spectroscopic approaches.

Objectives: Secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT) is a prevalent complication of end stage renal disease in which serious morbid conditions and mortality can be encountered. Although the best solution of this severe problem is renal transplantation, because of the huge demand and limited resources, this cannot be possible most of the time. Initial treatment alternative is medical treatment in patients with sHPT and parathyroidectomy (PTX) should be applied if does not help.

Comparison of three different intraocular lens implantation techniques in the absence of capsular support: sutured scleral, haptic flanged intrascleral, and four flanged intrascleral fixations.

Introduction: After lens extraction, if the capsular bag insufficiency occurs, there are different IOL implantation techniques. IOL implantation in the posterior chamber is safer in eyes with low endothelial cell count, peripheral anterior synechiae, shallow anterior chamber, and glaucoma. Alternative approaches for scleral fixation techniques, both with and without sutures, continue to undergo development.

Perspectives of adult patients with lysosomal storage diseases on the transition from pediatric to adult healthcare in Turkey.

Aim: In many countries, adult clinics specifically dedicated to adult patients with lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs) do not exist. In Turkey, these patients are managed either by pediatric metabolic specialists or adult physicians who do not specifically specialize in LSDs. In this study, we aimed to identify the unmet clinical needs of these adult patients and their suggestions.

A Rare Case and Atypical Metastatic Regions, Pulmonary Giant Cell Carcinoma.

Sixty two years old man referred to our clinic due to suspicion of thymic mass. The hypermetabolic nodular lesion in the right lung upper lobe was seen in F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in addition to the mass in the anterior mediastinum which was found to without malignancy. The patient underwent wedge resection and final diagnosis was pulmonary giant cell carcinoma.

Systemic immune-inflammation index could be associated with pseudophakic cystoid macular edema after an uneventful phacoemulsification surgery in patients without risk factors.

Background: To evaluate the association between serum biomarkers and pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (PCME) in eyes without risk factors after uneventful phacoemulsification cataract surgery.

Methods: This is a case-control study. Patients without risk factors and who developed clinically significant PCME after uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery were enrolled in the study.

Worse pre-admission quality of life is a strong predictor of mortality in critically ill patients.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to investigate whether quality of life (QoL) before intensive care unit (ICU) admission could predict ICU mortality in critically ill patients.

Patients And Methods: Between January 2019 and April 2019, a total of 105 ICU patients (54 males, 51 females; mean age: 58 years; range, 18 to 91 years) from two ICUs of a tertiary care hospital were included in this cross-sectional, prospective study. Pre-admission QoL was measured by the Short Form (SF)-12- Physical Component Scores (PCS) and Mental Component Scores (MCS) and EuroQoL five-dimension, five-level scale (EQ-5D-5L) within 24 h of ICU admission and mortality rates were estimated.

The role of C-reactive protein ratio in predicting mortality in patients with Fournier gangrene.

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the C-reactive protein (CRP) ratio for the survival of patients with Fournier gangrene (FG).

Methods: Fifty-two patients with FG between January 2011 and September 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Data on clinical presentation, Fournier Gangrene Severity Index (FGSI), CRP ratio, management, and outcome were analyzed.

Traditional and complementary medicine use and beliefs during COVID-19 outbreak: A cross-sectional survey among the general population in Turkey.

Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused a universal psychosocial impact, with many individuals exposed to threats preferring to try self-care interventions and non-conventional approaches such as traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM) for preventive purposes. This study was conducted to determine the use of and beliefs about T&CM among a subset of the general Turkish population during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Method: A cross-sectional online survey was carried out among the general population (aged ≥ 18 years) of Adana, Turkey during the strict lockdown period (April 11 to April 30, 2020).

Outcomes of the Ophthalmic Examinations in Patients Infected by SARS-CoV-2.

: To evaluate ophthalmic examination results which were performed with slit-lamp biomicroscope, in patients with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection.: In the present study, 50 patients with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, were enrolled. Ophthalmic examination with slit-lamp biomicroscopy was performed and the results were evaluated.

Evaluation of Conjunctival Swab PCR Results in Patients with SARS-CoV-2 Infection.

Purpose: The study objective was to identify severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA in conjunctival swabs from patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Methods: Forty patients who tested positive by real-time reverse transcription (rRT)-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs were enrolled. Conjunctival swabbing was used to collect the tear and conjunctival secretions of patients.

The role of F-18 FDG PET/CT in differentiating benign from malignant pulmonary masses and accompanying lymph nodes.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of SUV and lesion size to differentiate benign and malignant lesions of the lung and accompanying mediastinal lymph node on F-18 FDG PET/CT imaging.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis was carried out on 100 patients with suspected lung cancer who were recommended for PET/CT scans for diagnosis and staging. The results of the SUV, lesion size and patient's age were compared with histopathology which was considered to be the 'gold standard' and sensitivity and specificity were calculated respectively.

Bone metastases without primary tumor: A well-differentiated follicular thyroid carcinoma case.

Metastases to the bone are the most common malignant bone tumors. Prostate, breast, and lung carcinomas are the most common primaries of bone metastases. Bone metastases show poor prognosis in means of median survival; however, some patients with highly curable tumors such as thyroid carcinoma may benefit from treatment.

Efficacy of F-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose Positron Emission Tomography/Computerized Tomography for Bone Marrow Infiltration Assessment in the Initial Staging of Lymphoma.

Objective: Currently F-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computerized tomography (PET/CT) is being successfully used for staging and follow-up of Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Various studies have demonstrated that PET/CT effectively detects bone marrow involvement (BMI) and is concordant with bone marrow biopsy (BMB) findings, thus it is deemed as a complementary method. This study was aimed to evaluateF-FDG-PET/CT efficiency for detection of BMI in HL and NHL.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the most common cause of inherited blindness in adults. Mutations in the PRPF31 gene produce autosomal dominant RP (adRP). To date there are no effective treatments for this disease.

A proposed staging system for chronic symptomatic pilonidal sinus disease and results in patients treated with stage-based approach.

Background: Although there are many therapeutic options to manage patients with sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus disease, there remains controversy over a gold standard method for treating such patients. Most studies regarding sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus, collected patients in a single pool, and single modality was performed to all patients so far. Staging according to the progressive nature of disease and comparisons of stage-based treatment approaches are yet to be conducted.

Left Vocal Cord Paralysis Detected by PET/CT in a Case of Lung Cancer.

We report a patient with lung cancer. The first PET/CT imaging revealed hypermetabolic mass in the left aortopulmonary region and hypermetabolic nodule in the anterior segment of the upper lobe of the left lung. After completing chemotherapy and radiotherapy against the primary mass in the left lung, the patient underwent a second PET/CT examination for evaluation of treatment response.

Is there any relation between PET-CT SUVmax value and prognostic factors in locally advanced breast cancer?

Purpose: To investigate the relation between PET-CT SUVmax value and prognostic factors in locally advanced breast cancer.

Methods: Data of 73 patients were retrospectively analyzed. Relations between SUVmax value, clinical stage, tumor grade and breast cancer molecular subtypes were analyzed by using one-way ANOVA and x(2) tests.
