Military sexual trauma (MST) refers to sexual assault or harassment experienced during military service. Given the high prevalence of MST and negative mental and physical health outcomes that result from MST, Veterans Health Administration has identified a national priority for screening and treatment. An understanding of socioecological contexts of Veterans who seek mental health treatment to address difficulties following MST will support a holistic approach to care.

RAS is a common driver of cancer that was considered undruggable for decades. Recent advances have enabled the development of RAS inhibitors, but the efficacy of these inhibitors remains limited by resistance. Here, we developed a pan-RAS inhibitor, ADT-007, that binds nucleotide-free RAS to block GTP activation of effector interactions and MAPK/AKT signaling, resulting in mitotic arrest and apoptosis.

Introduction: Integrating health and social care to address unmet social needs is an emerging priority for health systems worldwide. Screening and referral interventions for unmet social needs, also known as Health Navigator (HN) interventions, in healthcare settings have shown mixed but promising results, mostly due to a large variability in intervention design and outcomes assessed. Most HN interventions are implemented in primary care, despite evidence that disadvantaged populations face substantial barriers to accessing such care, and these interventions are limited in Australia.

We demonstrate the formation of a complex, multi-wavelength, three-dimensional laser beam configuration with integrated metasurface (MS) optics. Our experiments support the development of a compact Sr optical-lattice clock, which leverages magneto-optical trapping at 461 nm and 689 nm without bulk free-space optics. We integrate six mm-scale metasurfaces on a fused silica substrate and illuminate them with light from optical fibers.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how dysglycemia affects surgical patients' outcomes, focusing on those with and without diabetes, and the role of prior glycemic control.
  • A total of 52,145 patients were analyzed, revealing that hyperglycemia increases mortality in diabetic patients, while non-diabetics face higher ICU admission rates due to hyperglycemia and increased mortality from hypoglycemia.
  • Preoperative glycemic control (measured by HbA1c) was found to reduce the negative effects of perioperative dysglycemia in diabetics, indicating that managing blood sugar levels before surgery could improve outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • ADT-1004 is a new oral prodrug that effectively inhibits tumor growth and RAS activation in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) models without causing significant toxicity.
  • It works by blocking ERK phosphorylation in tumor cells, showing effectiveness against various KRAS mutations and increasing immune cell presence in the tumor microenvironment.
  • ADT-1004’s broad antitumor activity and selectivity for KRAS mutant tumors make it a promising candidate for clinical trials in treating PDAC, potentially outperforming existing KRAS inhibitors.

Approximately 16% of Veterans experience military sexual trauma (MST), defined as sexual assault or harassment experienced during military service. Veterans across life stages may possess differing resources and face unique stressors that impact their ability to engage in mental health treatment or require additional liaison to services. The present study sought to characterize age-related differences in the socioecological contexts of Veterans seeking mental health treatment following MST in the domains of economic sufficiency, housing, spiritual coping, supportive relationships, and interpersonal violence.

Aim: Oral care is one of the most neglected nursing practices owing to a lack of training, standard nursing oral care guidelines and low confidence and skills. There is little evidence to inform the development of oral care training and guidelines, which ideally should be done in collaboration with oral health professionals. Further, there is a lack of research, particularly in New Zealand, with nursing staff caring for care-dependent older people, including those ageing in their own homes.

For patients with locally advanced/metastatic urothelial carcinoma (la/mUC), first-line (1L) treatment with platinum-based chemotherapy (PBC) followed by avelumab 1L maintenance (1LM) is a recommended therapy per treatment guidelines in patients without disease progression. However, contemporary real-world (rw) data among patients receiving this treatment are necessary to understand clinical outcomes and optimal treatment sequencing. This retrospective cohort study analyzed rw treatment patterns and clinical outcomes, including overall survival (rwOS) and progression-free survival (rwPFS), in patients with la/mUC receiving avelumab 1LM.

People living with HIV (PLHIV) are two to three times more likely to smoke tobacco compared to the general community. Evidence from the general population suggests that nicotine vaping products (NVPs) can be acceptable and effective smoking cessation aids, but there is limited evidence on the extent to which this is the case among PLHIV. This manuscript reports findings from the Tobacco Harm Reduction with Vaporised Nicotine (THRiVe) trial, a mixed-methods study investigating the feasibility of NVPs as smoking cessation aids among 29 PLHIV who smoked tobacco.

Declining physical function with aging is associated with structural and functional brain network organization. Gaining a greater understanding of network associations may be useful for targeting interventions that are designed to slow or prevent such decline. Our previous work demonstrated that the Short Physical Performance Battery (eSPPB) score and body mass index (BMI) exhibited a statistical interaction in their associations with connectivity in the sensorimotor cortex (SMN) and the dorsal attention network (DAN).
