Article Synopsis
  • Superglassy membranes made from polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) have issues with gas permeability declining over time due to the rearrangement of polymer chains, particularly in thin membranes.
  • A new thin film nanocomposite membrane (TFN) was developed using nanosized UiO-66-NH combined with carboxylated PIM-1 (cPIM-1), creating a stable 3D network that reduces chain relaxation and physical aging.
  • This innovation resulted in better gas separation performance with minimal aging effects, demonstrating a small 6% decrease in CO permeability over 63 days and high selectivity for CO against N and CH.

Synthesis of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) can be achieved via catalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF), in which both base and catalyst play important roles. This work presents the development of a simple synthesis method (based on a commercial parent 10 wt.% Pd/C catalyst) to prepare the bimetallic AuPd alloy catalysts (i.

A vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) followed by crystallization (VMD-C) was developed for the recovery of water and salts from shale gas produced water (SGPW). Before VMD, the pretreatment of SGPW with Fenton oxidation-flocculation is applied, with the chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration reduction of 75% and the total removal of the total suspended solids (TSS), Ca, and Mg in SGPW. The pretreatment of SGPW mitigated the membrane fouling in the VMD and effectively prevented the reduction of membrane flux over time.

A bimetallic catalytic membrane microreactor (CMMR) with bimetallic nanoparticles in membrane pores has been fabricated via flowing synthesis. The bimetallic nanoparticle is successfully immobilized in membrane pores along its thickness direction. Enhanced synergistic catalysis can be expected in this CMMR.
