Protocol of a feasibility randomised controlled trial of Empowered Conversations: training family carers to enhance their relationships and communication with people living with dementia.

Background: Communication difficulties can cause frustration, low mood, and stress for people living with dementia and their carer. Carers should be offered training on adapting their communication skills. However, it is not common for skills-based education to examine emotional aspects of care and the effect of dementia on relationships.

Matching ICD-11 personality status to clinical management in a community team-The Boston (UK) Personality Project: Study protocol.

Epidemiological studies show 30% to 50% of all patients in community mental health teams have personality disorders. These are normally comorbid with other psychiatric disorders, often as Galenic syndromes, and are seldom identified. In the Boston (UK) Personality Project all patients under a community health service in Boston in Lincolnshire will be asked to agree to have their personality status assessed using scales recording the new ICD-11 classification, together with clinical ratings, social function and satisfaction.

Phenotyping as disciplinary practice: data infrastructure and the interprofessional conflict over drug use in California.

The narrative of the digital phenotype as a transformative vector in healthcare is nearly identical to the concept of "data drivenness" in other fields such as law enforcement. We examine the role of a prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) in California-a computerized law enforcement surveillance program enabled by a landmark Supreme Court case that upheld "broad police powers"-in the interprofessional conflict between physicians and law enforcement over the jurisdiction of drug use. We bring together interview passages, clinical artifacts, and academic and gray literature to investigate the power relations between police, physicians, and patients to show that prescribing data appear to the physician as evidence of problematic patient behavior by the patients, and to law enforcement as evidence of physician misconduct.

The logic of domains.

The logic of domains has become a key organizing principle for contemporary computing projects and in broader science policy. The logic parses collectives of expertise into 'domains' that are to be studied or engaged in order to inform computational advancements and/or interventions on the domains themselves. The concept of a domain is set against a proposition that there is a more general, domain independent or agnostic technique that can serve to intermediate the domains.

Labeling Standards for Biosimilar Products.

In 2010 Congress established a regulatory pathway for the approval of biosimilar products in the United States. FDA has embarked on developing the implementation framework for this pathway which includes creating guidance to assist biosimilar manufacturers in the development of these products. However, to date, the guidances have focused primarily on the technical standards that manufacturers should consider in order to successfully achieve product registration.

Science friction: data, metadata, and collaboration.

When scientists from two or more disciplines work together on related problems, they often face what we call 'science friction'. As science becomes more data-driven, collaborative, and interdisciplinary, demand increases for interoperability among data, tools, and services. Metadata--usually viewed simply as 'data about data', describing objects such as books, journal articles, or datasets--serve key roles in interoperability.

The effect of a tall tower on flow and dispersion through a model urban neighborhood: part 2. Pollutant dispersion.

This article is the second in a two-paper series presenting results from wind tunnel and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of flow and dispersion in an idealized model urban neighborhood. Pollutant dispersion results are presented and discussed for a model neighborhood that was characterized by regular city blocks of three-story row houses with a single 12-story tower located at the downwind edge of one of these blocks. The tower had three significant effects on pollutant dispersion in the surrounding street canyons: drawing the plume laterally towards the tower, greatly enhancing the vertical dispersion of the plume in the wake of the tower, and significantly decreasing the residence time of pollutants in the wake of the tower.

The effect of a tall tower on flow and dispersion through a model urban neighborhood: part 1. Flow characteristics.

Wind tunnel experiments were performed to examine the effect of a tall tower on the flow around an otherwise uniform array of buildings. Additionally, preliminary CFD simulations were run to visualize the flow with more resolution. The model used in both the wind tunnel and CFD studies was designed to simulate an area of Brooklyn, NY, USA, where blocks of residential row houses form a neighborhood bordering a major urban highway.

Docosahexaenoic acid-induced alteration of Thy-1 and CD8 expression on murine splenocytes.

Here we test whether the incorporation of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6), an (n-3) fatty acid, into lymphocyte membranes affects the expression of the surface proteins Thy-1.2 and CD8. DHA was incorporated into splenocytes by three methods: feeding mice diets containing menhaden (fish) oil, fusing splenocytes with DHA-containing phosphatidylcholine vesicles, and culturing splenocytes with DHA.
