Background: Carotenoids possess essential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties; however, the relationships between carotenoids and osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis (OA) remain inadequately understood. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between diverse serum carotenoid concentrations and OA in a large American cohort and to examine the influence of various factors on the association between carotenoids and OA.

Objectives: This case demonstrates the efficacy and safety of Traditional Chinese Medicine manual therapy (TCMMT) for the treatment of mild to moderate AIS.

Methods: An 10-year-old girl who suffered from low back pain (LBP) with marked shoulder inequality and razorback postural abnormalities, with a clinical diagnosis of idiopathic scoliosis, and the Cobb angle of 20° and angle of trunk rotation (ATR) of the thoracic vertebral segment at 7°, and ATR of the lumbar vertebral segment at 8°, was treated with TCMMT. The patient initially recovered from centralized LBP with repeated TCMMT twice per week for 1 month.

Defect engineering critically influences metal oxide catalysis, yet controlling coordinatively unsaturated metal sites remains challenging due to their inherent instability under reaction conditions. Here, we demonstrate that high-flux argon ion (Ar) irradiation above recrystallization temperatures generated well-defined coordinatively unsaturated Zn (CUZ) sites on ZnO(101̅0) surfaces that exhibited enhanced stability and activity for CO hydrogenation. Combining low-temperature scanning probe microscopy, ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and surface-ligand infrared spectroscopy with density functional theory calculations, we identified <12̅10> step edges exposing CUZ sites as the dominant active sites.

We disclose herein a chiral phosphoric-acid-catalyzed enantioselective addition reaction of alcohols to fluoroalkylated biaryl 1,3-oxoazepines, which furnished a wide range of bridged biaryls bearing a fluoroalkylated quaternary carbon stereocenter on the seven-membered ring in high yields (up to 99%) with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee). Our method can be used for the modification of several natural products and bioactive molecules. Preliminary studies revealed that the products obtained in this reaction exhibit good in vitro bioactivities against two plant pathogens.

Introduction: Health education, weight control and exercise therapy are recognised treatment options for the non-surgical management of knee osteoarthritis (KOA); however, the pain and muscle fatigue associated with exercise make it difficult for patients to initially adhere. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) massage is an important complementary and alternative therapy that can effectively address these deficiencies. However, the transport mechanism of oil and gas molecules, such as aqueous methane solution in intelligent-responsive TPA-modified nano-channels and the blocking behavior of TPA, have not been verified yet. Flexible photodetectors are pivotal in contemporary optoelectronic technology applications, such as data reception and image sensing, yet their performance and yield are often hindered by the challenge of heterogeneous integration between photoactive materials and flexible substrates. Here, we showcase the potential of an electrostatic force-assisted transfer printing technique for integrating Si PIN photodiodes onto flexible substrates. This clean and dry process eliminates the need for chemical etchants, making it a highly desirable method for manufacturing high-performance flexible photodetector arrays, expanding their widespread applications in electronic eyes, robotics, and human-machine interaction.

In this Letter, we experimentally investigate a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) optical wireless communication (OWC) system that utilizes wavefront shaping techniques to realize simultaneous data transmission for multiple users. Wavefront shaping techniques are employed to address the issue of low intensity of diffusely reflected light at the receiver in NLOS scenarios for indoor high-speed access. To achieve communication path planning and tracing for two different users in free-space optical communication, the pixels of the spatial light modulator (SLM) are divided into two halves to separately manipulate the wavefront of two independent data carriers centered at different wavelengths.
