Background: Access to liver transplantation (LT) is affected by geographic disparities. Higher waitlist mortality is observed in patients residing farther from LT centres, but the impact of distance on post-LT outcomes is unclear.
Aims: To evaluate whether the distance LT recipients reside from their LT centre affects graft and patient outcomes.
Binocular vision requires that the brain integrate information coming from each eye. These images are combined (fused) to generate a meaningful composite image. Differences between images, within a range, provide useful information about depth (stereopsis).

Echocardiography can be used due to its direct feedback and bedside nature, but it currently faces image quality issues and an inability to differentiate coronary macro- from micro-circulation. We previously developed an imaging scheme using high frame-rate contrast-enhanced ultrasound (HFR CEUS) with higher order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) that provides dynamic perfusion and vascular flow visualization.

Common complications include false passage, channel stenosis/difficult catheterization, channel incontinence, and stomal stenosis. This may result in the need for surgical revision or replacement.

Little is known about the incidence of end-stage and chronic kidney disease (ESKD and CKD, respectively) in this population. Our group has recently published on surgical outcomes in a multi-institutional cohort of 216 people with CBE.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDue to advancements in medical care and reconstructive surgery, more patients with bladder exstrophy are reaching reproductive age and considering pregnancy. Complications are more common during pregnancy in this patient population, given medical comorbidities and prior surgical intervention. In the case of cesarean delivery, careful planning is necessary to prevent inadvertent injury to the bladder or bowel segments.

Methods: Sixty PCPs completed a survey assessing their current practices, attitudes, and confidence with cancer risk assessment and testing. Sixteen participated in follow-up interviews.
Objective: Accurately measuring intracardiac flow patterns could provide insights into cardiac disease pathophysiology, potentially enhancing diagnostic and prognostic capabilities. This study aims to validate Echo-Particle Image Velocimetry (echoPIV) for in vivo left ventricular intracardiac flow imaging against 4D flow MRI.
Methods: We acquired high frame rate contrast-enhanced ultrasound images from three standard apical views of 26 patients who required cardiac MRI.
Objective: To explore the perspectives of young adult males with spina bifida (SB) on their fertility potential and parenthood.
Methods: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted between 2/2021 and 5/2021 with men ≥18 years of age with SB on perspectives on fertility potential and parenthood. Demographic and clinical characteristics were obtained from a survey and chart review.
Our understanding of how fluid forces influence cell migration in confining environments remains limited. By integrating microfluidics with live-cell imaging, we demonstrate that cells in tightly-but not moderately-confined spaces reverse direction and move upstream upon exposure to fluid forces. This fluid force-induced directional change occurs less frequently when cells display diminished mechanosensitivity, experience elevated hydraulic resistance, or sense a chemical gradient.

Meaningful recognition (MR) is an evidence-based practice that improved nurse burnout (BO) in the clinical setting. There is limited literature on its impact on nurse faculty.

Such pneumothoraces occur infrequently and rarely require intervention. We investigated the utility of routine CXR post drain removal and hypothesised that the practice is unnecessary and a possible area for significant cost saving.

In the past decade, there has been increasing interest in the association between hypomagnesaemia and the development of PTDM. This systematic review aimed to investigate the current knowledge regarding the association between hypomagnesaemia and PTDM in adult liver and renal transplant recipients.

Aims: By combining temporal changes in left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal strain (GLS) with LV volume, LV strain-volume loops can assess cardiac function across the cardiac cycle. This study compared LV strain-volume loops between bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) patients and controls, and investigated the loop's prognostic value for clinical events.
Methods And Results: From a prospective cohort of congenital heart disease patients, BAV patients were selected and compared with healthy volunteers, who were matched for age and sex at group level.
Background: The effectiveness of traditional amblyopia therapies is largely restricted to childhood. However, spontaneous recovery in adulthood is possible following vision loss in the fellow eye due to enucleation, injury, or disease. The twofold purpose of this study was (1) to define the incidence of recovery and (2) to elucidate the clinical features associated with greater amblyopic eye gains.

We evaluated these differences and associations with cancer-specific survival (CSS) using Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) cancer registries.
Methods: SEER (1988-2016) was used to identify male patients 0 to 40 years of age diagnosed with seminoma and nonseminomatous GCT (NSGCT).
The precise link between inflammation and pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is yet to be fully established. We developed a novel method to measure ASC/NLRP3 protein specks which are specific for the NLRP3 inflammasome only. We combined this with cytokine profiling to characterise various inflammatory markers in a large cohort of patients with lower risk MDS in comparison to healthy controls and patients with defined autoinflammatory disorders (AIDs).

Materials And Methods: Clinical questionnaires administered to individuals ≥ 12 years old requiring catheterization between June 2019 to March 2020 in a spina bifida center were retrospectively analyzed. Questionnaires were completed in English or Spanish independently or with caregiver assistance.
In our previous study, we demonstrated the impact of overexpression of CB and CB cannabinoid receptors and the inhibitory effect of endocannabinoids (2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) and Anandamide (AEA)) on canine ( and human () non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) cell lines' viability compared to cells treated with a vehicle. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the anti-cancer effects of the phytocannabinoids, cannabidiol (CBD) and ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and the synthetic cannabinoid WIN 55-212-22 (WIN) in canine and human lymphoma cell lines and to compare their inhibitory effect to that of endocannabinoids. We used malignant canine B-cell lymphoma (BCL) (1771 and CLB-L1) and T-cell lymphoma (TCL) (CL-1) cell lines, and human BCL cell line (RAMOS).
