Objectives: The management of the facial nerve (FN) is a major issue in parotid cancer, especially when there is no preoperative facial palsy and FN invasion is discovered intraoperatively. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of FN resection in patients with parotid cancer abutting the FN, without pretreatment facial palsy, using a propensity score matching.

Materials And Methods: Data from all patients treated between 2009 and 2020 for a primary parotid cancer abutting or invading the FN but without pretreatment facial palsy were extracted from the national multicentric REFCOR database.

We herein describe an extremely rare case of globe dislocation into the left maxillary sinus with complete recovery of visual acuity.

Robot-guided osteotomy in fibula free flap mandibular reconstruction: a preclinical study.

Various methods currently exist to guide fibular osteotomy positioning in fibula free flap mandibular reconstruction, but patient-specific navigation methods and cutting guides require experience, and may be time-consuming and/or expensive. This study describes a robot-guided osteotomy technique for mandible reconstruction using a fibula free flap according to virtual preoperative planning. Background: De-epithelialized flaps have been used in gluteal contouring over the last three decades, but most improve the projection rather than the upper quadrants. The authors provide a detailed description of their method of gluteal augmentation using parasacral perforator-pedicled propeller flaps. This technique achieves a volumetric increase and maximal buttock projection at the midlevel and in the medial half of the buttocks.

Fibular registration using surface matching in navigation-guided osteotomies: a proof of concept study on 3D-printed models.

Purpose: Fibula free flap is currently used in mandibular reconstruction. The main difficulties involved in this surgery concern mandible shaping and therefore, osteotomy positioning on the fibula. The use of navigation could help in osteotomy positioning, but accurate registration is required.

Could treatment with botulinum toxin protect against subsequent infection with COVID-19?

We report comparative results, over three months, of the impact of SARS-CoV2 in our patients injected with botulinum toxin for functional purposes, compared to the general population. Botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A) is known to block acetylcholine (ACh) as well as many other neuroreceptors and neuromodulators. The recent mention of a potential protective effect of nicotine in COVID 19, by blocking ACh, attracted our attention and guided the present study.

Osteocutaneous radial forearm free flap for anterior cranial base reconstruction: Technical note.

During the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, a lockdown was imposed in France during the first wave. An apparent decrease in incidence of cellulitis of odontogenic origin was noticed then. This study aimed to compare the incidence of cellulitis during this extraordinary period with the same period in 2018 and 2019, based on retrospective multicentric data.

Bilateral mandibular block improves pain relief and morphine consumption in mandibular osteotomies: a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Background: The sensory innervation of the lower jaw mainly depends on the third root of the trigeminal nerve, the mandibular nerve (V3). The aim of this single-center, prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was to evaluate the effectiveness of bilateral V3 block for postoperative analgesia management in mandibular osteotomies.

Methods: 107 patients undergoing mandibular surgery (75 scheduled osteotomies and 32 mandible fractures) were randomized in two groups.

Impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on the epidemiology of maxillofacial trauma activity: a French multicentre comparative study.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has had a major impact on medical and surgical activities. A decline in facial trauma incidence was noticed during the lockdown period. The aim of this study was to evaluate the decline in maxillofacial trauma in France during this particular period.

Delayed diagnosis and inappropriate clinical management of nicorandil-induced oral lesions: A case report.

Oral ulcers have a number of causes, and as a result, their etiology can be difficult to determine. Clinical management can range from simple treatment of the symptoms to extensive surgical excision, as in the case of malignant ulcers. Nicorandil, an antiangina drug, has been identified as a potential trigger for cutaneomucosal ulcers.

In-house 3D treatment planning for mandibular reconstruction by free fibula flap in cancer: Our technique.

Planning of free fibula flaps for mandibular reconstruction improves the quality of conformation and reduces the operating time. Many methods based on modeling and 3D printing have been described with excellent results, but planning and production of custom-made guides and/or plates are often time-consuming and expensive. In this article, we describe our 3D printing-assisted free fibula flap planning method, routinely performed exclusively by the surgical team in less than 72hours, compatible with urgent cancer management.

Repair of gauge earlobe medium defect.

The aim of this article is to describe a simple surgical technique to repair medium deformations, based on two opposite crescents on the anterior and posterior sides of the earlobe.
