Introduction: Type 1 cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) is defined as acute decompensated heart failure (AHF) leading to secondary acute kidney injury. Few studies have evaluated the reliability of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in assessing outcomes in patients with type 1 CRS. We sought to identify echocardiographic predictors of outcomes (death and rehospitalization) in patients with type 1 CRS.

Introduction: The occurrence of death from acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is often linked to right ventricular (RV) failure, arising from an imbalance between RV systolic function and heightened RV afterload. In our study, we posited that an echocardiographic ratio derived from this disparity [RV systolic function assessed by tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) divided by pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (PASP)] could offer superior predictive value for adverse outcomes compared to individual measurements of TAPSE and PASP alone.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis using data from a University Hospital Centre spanning from 2017 to 2023.

The Bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccination (BCG) contributed widely to reduce tuberculosis incidence in developing countries. The aim of this report was to assess the clinical "spectrum" and outcome of tuberculous meningitis in 16 Bacille Calmette-Guérin-vaccinated Tunisian children. They were 9 boys and 7 girls aged 2 to 168 months (median 72 months ± 65.

Despite high vaccination coverage rates, there has been a gradual increase in reported pertussis cases. Although whooping cough affects all ages, young infants continue to suffer the greatest pertussis disease burden. Adolescents and adults are the primary source of infection for young babies.

Objective: The authors had for aim to analyze pertussis epidemiology in Tunisia by studying nasopharyngeal specimens of infants hospitalized in Tunis.

Methods: Between march 2007 and march 2008, clinical nasopharyngeal samples were collected from infants with a suspected diagnosis of whooping cough, pertussoid cough, or pertussis-like syndrome, admitted at the Tunis children's hospital. The laboratory diagnostic criteria were culture isolation of Bordetella species on Bordet-Gengou medium and real-time PCR.

We conducted a retrospective study of meningococcal invasive diseases (MID) contracted in children in Tunis between January 1997 and January 2006. The purpose of this study is to specify the clinical, epidemiological, therapeutic and evolutionary features of these infections and to determine antimicrobial susceptibility and the antigenic formula of N. meningitidis isolates.

Listeria monocytogenesis a Gram positive facultative intracellular bacterium that can be responsible for severe infections, affecting essentially pregnant women, immunocompromised patients at the early and later stages of life. In Tunisia, invasive L. monocytogenes infections are thought to be exceptional and limited data are available about listeriosis.

We have collected cases of iatrogenic meningitis managed in the Children's Hospital of Tunis, between January 1998 and December 2006. Clinical information about each patient were collected, all bacterial samples were investigated in the microbiology laboratory of the hospital. Bacterial isolates were identified according to conventional criteria.

Background: Congenital candidiasis is rare occurring in most cases in premature and low birth weight new born. It can produce a spectrum of disease ranging from a diffuse skin eruption to a severe systemic disease with or without skin involvement. Amphotericin B is the first-line agent for the treatment of systemic disease.

Aim: to report an exceedingly rare case of mediastinal mass of tuberculous origin.

Case Report: We report a three-month-old boy who presented a one month history of wheezing and persistent pneumopathy.

Nasal and upper respiratory tract obstruction in the neonatal period can result from a variety of conditions, and may be present with variable symptoms. Salivary gland anlage tumor, also referred as congenital pleomorphic adenoma, is a very rare benign congenital tumor of the nasopharynx, which may produce nasal obstruction and other associated, nonspecific symptoms. We report a case of congenital salivary gland anlage tumor causing a severe neonatal respiratory distress with pulmonary hypertension.

Solitary fibrous tumours of the pleura are usually benign. However, malignancy is observed in 13% of the cases. The authors report two cases of 27 and 69 year-old patients, presenting chest pain and dyspnoea.

Background: Inhalation of laryngotracheobronchial foreign body in children is a serious accident that may compromise the prognosis of the child and the respiratory function in the long term.

Aim: identify the predictive factors of respiratory sequelae of laryngotracheobronchial foreign body inhalation.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted in the children hospital of Tunis during a period of nine years (2000 - 2008).

Background: Cockayne syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disorder with dwarfism, mental retardation, and otherwise clinically heterogeneous features. Classically, the onset of Cockayne syndrome starts in the second year of life. The failure of RNA synthesis to recover to normal rates after UV-C irradiation provides a useful diagnostic test and the clinical feature that correlates most strongly with defective RNA synthesis is photosensitivity.

Aim: To analysis clinical patterns and the outcome of community acquired pneumonia and to find arguments in favour of its origin.

Background: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis accounts for up to one third of all cases of tuberculosis and children show a higher predisposition to the development of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis.

Aim: To review the clinical features of the extrapulmonary tuberculosis in children.

Methods: forty one children with extrapulmonary tuberculosis followed in the Children Hospital of Tunis between January 1995 and December 2007 were reviewed.
