Background: Recommended treatment after acute coronary syndrome (ACS) involves high-intensity statin therapy to achieve the low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) target of<1.4mmol/L (European guidelines), but many patients discontinue statins because of real or perceived side-effects. Whether body mass index (BMI) influences statin intolerance remains unclear.

Its objective was to analyze the tunnel boring machine-soil-pile interactions occurring during tunnel excavation near piled structures in the context of the geology of the Paris basin. This data paper summarizes the main measurements made during this experiment, namely: (i) the horizontal and vertical displacements measured in the ground, on the surface and in the thickness of the cover, (ii) the settlements of the pile heads, and the variations of the normal forces in the pile depth.

Nuclear spins in diamond are particularly attractive due to their long coherence time. With the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centre, such nuclear qubits benefit from an auxiliary electronic qubit, which, at cryogenic temperatures, enables probabilistic entanglement mediated optically by photonic links.

The hypothesis of a predictable bacterial community structure in the end products according to the OW origin was tested. Nine OW treatment plants were selected to assess the genetic structure of bacterial communities found in raw OW according to their content in agricultural and urban wastes and to estimate their modifications through AD and composting.

This device can be set at a defined electrochemical potential, locking onto the particular chemical reaction, whilst the NV center provides the sensing function. The NV charge state occupation is initially prepared by applying a bias voltage on a gate electrode and then subsequently altered by exposure to detected charged molecules.

Here, we show that colorectal cancers (CRC) can initiate and grow faster through an EGFR-independent mechanism, irrespective of the presence of EGFR, in two different mouse models using tissue-specific ablation of Egfr. The growth benefit in the absence of EGFR is also independent of Kras status.

The hypothesis of significant relationships between tpm distribution patterns and chemical pollutants found in urban deposits was investigated. The tpm gene was found conserved among eight bacterial phyla with no sign of horizontal gene transfers but a predominance among gammaproteobacteria.

Using β^{-} emission channeling following low fluence ^{121}Sn implantation (2×10^{12} atoms/cm^{2}, 60 keV) at the ISOLDE facility at CERN, we directly identified and quantified the atomic configurations of the Sn-related centers. Our data show that the split-vacancy configuration is formed immediately upon implantation with a surprisingly high efficiency of ≈40%.

Failure of the immune system to tolerate drugs, cosmetics, and other skin products causes allergic contact dermatitis, a T cell-mediated disease with rising prevalence. Models of αβ T cell response emphasize T cell receptor (TCR) contact with peptide-MHC complexes, but this model cannot readily explain activation by most contact dermatitis allergens, which are nonpeptidic molecules.

However, the readout of NV spin state requires bulky optical setups, limiting fabrication of miniaturized compact devices for practical use. Here we realized photoelectrical detection of magnetic resonance as well as Rabi oscillations on a single-defect level.

An optical waveguide structure allows for enhanced optical path-lengths avoiding the use of optical cavities and complicated setups. The presented design for diamond-based magnetometers enables miniaturization while maintaining high sensitivity and forms the basis for magnetic field sensors applicable in biomedical, industrial and space-related applications.

The nature and fate of urban contaminants washed by stormwater events and accumulating in a detention basin (DB) were investigated. Relations between bacterial and chemical contaminants of trapped urban sediments, and field parameters were analyzed. Fecal indicators and some pathogens known to be environmentally transmitted (Nocardia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Aeromonas caviae) were tracked, and their persistence investigated.

Mutation of the NF1 gene affects the RAS-MAPK signaling pathway and leads to a dysfunction in cell proliferation and induces tumor development. Epidemiology of cancer in children with NF1 is very different from the general pediatric population, which requires regular and specific monitoring.

New methods for spinal growth modulation with flexible spinal implants have been described to avoid progression of the deformity during growth spurt. The main limitations are that no specific ancillaries and devices are available, which makes the surgery technically demanding.

However, any delay in the diagnosis may severely impair the prognosis of some fractures. View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtopic dermatitis is a common pruritic skin disease in which barrier dysfunction and cutaneous inflammation contribute to pathogenesis. Mechanisms underlying the associated inflammation are not fully understood, and although Langerhans cells expressing the nonclassical major histocompatibility complex (MHC) family member CD1a are known to be enriched within lesions, their role in clinical disease pathogenesis has not been studied. We observed that house dust mite (HDM) allergen generates neolipid antigens presented by CD1a to T cells in the blood and skin lesions of affected individuals.
