Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) is an aggressive B-cell lymphoma that occurs in children and adults. It is a chemosensitive lymphoma with very exceptional cases of late relapse. We report the case of a 32-year-old male, originally from a nonendemic area for BL, who was successfully treated for abdominal BL 20 years ago.

This study aimed to investigate the combination of the four regions of Helicobacter pylori vacA with cagA, cagE, dupA genes and cagA-EPIYA motifs to identify the most likely combination that could be used as a disease determinant marker in the Moroccan population. A total of 838 H. pylori-positive samples were obtained from consenting patients, that were previously analyzed by PCR to characterize vacA-s, -m, and -i regions; cagE status; and cagA 3' region polymorphism, were used to characterize vacA-d region and to determine dupA gene status.

A rare association of a high grade glioblastoma, cerebral abscess and acute lymphoblastic leukemia in a child with Noonan syndrome.

Noonan syndrome is a genetic disorder frequently caused by PTPN11 mutations. Patients with Noonan syndrome are characterized by facial dysmorphism, short stature and congenital heart defects and they have a reported predisposition to malignancies such as leukemia, and solid and central nervous system tumors. Here, we report a case of a 14-year-old boy with Noonan syndrome treated for T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia who presented with 2 concomitant abnormalities: cerebral abscess and high grade glioblastoma.

Cytomegalovirus-induced Hemorrhagic Colitis in a Patient with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (Chronic Phase) on Dasatinib as an Upfront Therapy.

Dasatinib is a kinase inhibitor indicated for the treatment of newly diagnosed adults with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in chronic phase and accelerated (myeloid or lymphoid blast) phase, and CML with resistance or intolerance to prior therapy including imatinib and in adults with Ph+ acute lymphoblastic leukemia1 The most common adverse reactions (≥15%) in patients with newly diagnosed chronic-phase (CP) CML include myelosuppression, fluid retention, and diarrhea, whereas in patients with resistance or intolerance to prior imatinib therapy, side effects include myelosuppression, fluid retention, diarrhea, headache, dyspnea, skin rash, fatigue, nausea, and hemorrhage. We report a 39-year-old Ethiopian female patient who received dasatinib as upfront therapy for the treatment of CP-CML who experienced chronic diarrhea for two months, which progressed to hemorrhagic colitis due to cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection of the colon. To our knowledge, this is the first case of CMV colitis in a patient receiving dasatinib as upfront therapy.

Amyloid neuropathy mimicking chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy.

Introduction: Amyloid neuropathy is a rare peripheral neuropathy that classically presents as a progressive sensory neuropathy with prominent autonomic involvement.

Methods: We describe 5 patients with amyloid neuropathy (familial amyloid polyneuropathy or acquired amyloidosis) who were initially mistaken to have chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) based on history, clinical examination, electrodiagnostic studies, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis.

Results: The diagnosis of CIDP had been retained on clinical and electrophysiological grounds for all patients, but we observed no improvement after immunomodulatory treatment.

[Acute polyradiculoneuropathy. Guillain-Barre syndrome].

A retrospective study of 120 cases of acute polyradiculoneuropathy hospitalized in the National Institute of Neurology, since 1974. We analysed the clinical and neurophysiological pictures, the course of the disease and the prognosis. All ages and sex were affected.

Pain as the presenting symptom of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP).

Numerous clinical forms of CIDP have been described, but pain is generally considered a rare or secondary sign. We describe here the clinical, electrophysiological and neuropathological characteristics of five patients with CIDP and pain as the main presenting symptom, and their course with treatment. Polyneuropathy with demyelinating features in mixed cryoglobulinemia with hepatitis C virus infection.

[Autonomic nervous system involvement in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy].

Introduction: Involvement of the autonomic nervous system during Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) is rare. Localised hyperhydrosis and Claude Bernard Horner (CBH) syndrome have never been reported in patients with CIDP.

Case Report: We report the case of a 65-year-old right handed man who presented with hyperhydrosis localised to the right hemithorax and hemiface and a left CBH syndrome.

Fatigue as the main presenting symptom of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy: a study of 11 cases.

Fatigue has been shown to be more frequent than previously thought in immune-mediated polyneuropathies. However, fatigue has not been reported as the main cause of referral in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) patients. Between January 2001 and December 2003, we investigated 11 patients referred for fatigue, for which we established a final diagnosis of CIDP.

[Involvement of the peripheral nervous system in multiple sclerosis].

Multiple sclerosis is a demyelinating disease limited to the central nervous system, but the literature has provided recurring evidence which raises the question of associated peripheral nervous system abnormalities. The prevalence of peripheral neuropathy during multiple sclerosis remains controversial without prospective study. Nevertheless, some data have reported well documented case reports describing the co-occurrence of multiple sclerosis and radiculopathy or mononeuropathy or polyneuropathy in the same patients.
