Propofol was used to induce and maintain anaesthesia in 20 healthy adult ASA physical status 1 patients undergoing dental surgery. Recovery was studied using psychometric tests and clinical assessment while propofol blood levels were obtained at the same study times. Recovery was rapid and there were no significant differences 60 min after anaesthesia (t60) for the tracing test and 90 min for the choice reaction time.

A case is reported of rapidly resolving pulmonary oedema following post-extubation laryngospasm in a 23 year-old healthy man who underwent emergency resection of a rectal polyp. The laryngospasm occurred immediately after extubation and resolved after administration of curare. The patient was reintubated and auscultation disclosed bilateral coarse and moist rales.

The urinary excretion of nitrogen was calculated, using the daily urinary urea nitrogen output in 19 patients with multiple trauma. The patients were followed for at least two weeks in an intensive care unit. The urinary excretion for each patient was expressed as the average of 7 day periods and the differences were evaluated with the Student's test for paired samples.

This study was aimed at comparing pre- and immediately postoperative plasma amino acids levels in ten patients undergoing moderately important surgery and anaesthetised using the same protocol. Amino acid levels were measured using and automatic analyser equipped with an ion exchanger column. Changes in total blood amino acid levels showed wide variations.
