Antibodies play a critical role in protection against influenza; yet titers and viral neutralization represent incomplete correlates of immunity. Instead, the ability of antibodies to leverage the antiviral power of the innate immune system has been implicated in protection from and clearance of influenza infection. Here, post-hoc analysis of the humoral immune response to influenza is comprehensively profiled in a cohort of vaccinated older adults (65 + ) monitored for influenza infection during the 2012/2013 season in the United States (NCT: 01427309).

The "claw sign" is a radiographic sign studied in human imaging to determine if a mass arises from a solid structure or organ versus a close adjacent location, resulting in distortion of the outline of an organ. We investigated its utility in characterizing MRI axial localization of peripherally located intracranial glioma versus meningioma, due to their overlap in MRI appearance. This retrospective, secondary analysis, cross-sectional study aimed to report the sensitivity, specificity, and inter- and intraobserver variabilities using kappa statistics, hypothesizing that the claw sign will have strong inter- and intraobserver agreement (κ > 0.

Under the ever-present threat of a pandemic influenza strain, the evolution of a broadly reactive, neutralizing, functional, humoral immune response may hold the key to protection against both circulating and emerging influenza strains. We apply a systems approach to profile hemagglutinin- and neuraminidase-specific humoral signatures that track with the evolution of broad immunity in a cohort of vaccinated individuals and validate these findings in a second longitudinal cohort. Multivariate analysis reveals the presence of a unique pre-existing Fcγ-receptor-binding antibody profile in individuals that evolved broadly reactive hemagglutination inhibition activity (HAI), marked by the presence of elevated levels of pre-existing FCGR2B-binding antibodies.

Introduction: Infiltrating tumor border configuration (ITBC) portends a poor prognosis compared with pushing tumor border configuration (PTBC) in colorectal cancer. The tumor and its surrounding immune microenvironment of tumor border configuration is not well-characterized. We aim to elucidate the differences in expression of molecular markers between the 2 groups using tissue microarray (TMA).

Field sterility for K-wire insertion outside the main operating room is much cheaper and greener (ie, there is less waste). It permits increased access to more affordable surgery because unnecessary sedation and full sterility are eliminated. Early pain-guided protected movement of K-wired finger fractures at 3 to 5 days leads to less stiffness.

Governments across the world have deployed various surveillance devices to curb the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on literature research on two contrasting cases, South Korea and Canada, this study shows the influence of national context on deploying automated epidemiological surveillance of COVID-19. Beside highlighting food for thought regarding government management of a possible new health crisis, the study shows that civil society can contribute to informing public debate by bringing governments to be transparent in terms of automated epidemiological surveillance.

Background: Vaccine hesitancy and inconsistent mitigation behavior performance have been significant challenges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In Canada, despite relatively high vaccine availability and uptake, willingness to accept booster shots and maintain mitigation behaviors in the post-acute phase of COVID-19 remain uncertain. The aim of the Canadian COVID-19 Experiences Project (CCEP) is threefold: 1) to identify social-cognitive and neurocognitive predictors of mitigation behaviors, 2) to identify optimal communication strategies to promote vaccination and mitigation behaviors, and 3) to examine brain health outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection and examine their longevity.
