Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are considered good drug targets for breast cancer because of their involvement in fatty acid metabolism that induces cell proliferation. In this study, we used the KAIMRC1 breast cancer cell line. We showed that the PPARE-Luciferase reporter gets highly activated without adding any exogenous ligand when PPAR alpha is co-transfected, and the antagonist GW6471 can inhibit the activity.

Angiotensin II (Ang II) is a major component of the renin-angiotensin or renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, which is the main element found to be involved in cardiopathology. Recently, long-term metabolomics studies have linked high levels of angiotensin plasma to inflammatory conditions such as coronary heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Monocyte/macrophage cellular function and phenotype orchestrate the inflammatory response in various pathological conditions, most notably cardiometabolic disease.

The colony stimulating factor 2 receptor subunit beta (CSF2RB) is the common signaling subunit of the cytokine receptors for IL-3, IL-5, and GM-CSF. Several studies have shown that spontaneous and random mutants of CSF2RB can lead to ligand independence in vitro. To date, no report(s) have been shown for the presence of potentially transforming and oncogenic CSF2RB mutation(s) clinically in cancer patients until the first reported case of a leukemia patient in 2016 harboring a germline-activating mutation (R461C).

Rare diseases frequently attack and weaken the immune system, increasing the patient's vulnerability to develop severe conditions after viral infections, such as COVID-19. Many patients with rare diseases also suffer from mental retardation and disability. These rare disease phenotypes do not emerge in older people who are susceptible to COVID-19 infection, but present at a very young age or at birth.

The axon initial segment (AIS), the site of action potential initiation in neurons, is a critical determinant of neuronal excitability. Growing evidence indicates that appropriate recruitment of the AIS macrocomplex is essential for synchronized firing. However, disruption of the AIS structure is linked to the etiology of multiple disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a condition characterized by deficits in social communication, stereotyped behaviors, and very limited interests.

Skeletal development throughout the embryonic and postnatal phases is a dynamic process, based on bone remodeling and the balance between the activities of osteoclasts and osteoblasts modulating skeletal homeostasis. The Notch signaling pathway is a regulator of several developmental processes, and plays a crucial role in the development of the human skeleton by regulating the proliferation and differentiation of skeletal cells. The Delta Like-1 (DLL1) gene plays an important role in Notch signaling.

We recently established a KAIMRC1 cell line that has unique features compared to the known breast cancer cell lines, MCF7 and MDA-MB231. To characterize it further, we investigated the expression profile of nuclear receptors and their respective co-factors in these cell lines. We confirm that in contrast to the triple negative cell line MDA-MB231, the MCF7 and KAIMRC1 are estrogen receptor alpha (ERa) and progesterone receptor alpha (PRa) positive, with significant lower expression of these receptors in KAIMRC1.

In mammals, circadian rhythmicity is sustained via a transcriptional/translational feedback loop referred to as the canonical molecular circadian clock. Circadian rhythm is absent in undifferentiated embryonic stem cells; it begins only after differentiation. We used pluripotent P19 embryonal carcinoma stem cells to check the biological clock before and after differentiation into neurons using retinoic acid.
