Using finite-temperature ab initio simulations and nonequilibirum thermodynamic integration, both accelerated by machine learning, we evaluate the Gibbs free energies of three solid phases previously proposed. At room temperature, the face-centered cubic (fcc) phase is stable up to ∼500 GPa whereas the body-centered cubic (bcc) phase only appears above 1 TPa.

FeO represents an important end-member for planetary interiors mineralogy. However, its properties in the liquid state under high pressure are poorly constrained. Here, in situ high-pressure and high-temperature X-ray diffraction experiments, ab initio simulations, and thermodynamic calculations are combined to study the local structure and density evolution of liquid FeO under extreme conditions.

Sound velocities and thermodynamical properties of hcp iron have been computed usingcalculations over an extended density and temperature range, encompassing the conditions directly relevant for the Earth's inner core. At room temperature, and up to 350 GPa, an excellent agreement is obtained between present results and experimental data for many thermodynamical quantities: phonon density of states, vibrational entropy, heat capacity, Grüneisen parameter and thermal expansion. With increasing temperature, along an isochore, we observe a strong decrease of the phonon frequencies, demonstrating that intrinsic anharmonic effects cannot be neglected.

Methods: Multicentric case series evaluating 189 patients who underwent RFFF for carcinologic reasons at least 6 months before. Patients and surgeon's appreciation regarding the aesthetic and functional consequences of the flap harvest on their daily life were evaluated by questionnaires using likert scales.
The outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has significantly affected the dental care sector. Dental professionals are at high risk of being infected, and therefore transmitting SARS-CoV-2, due to the nature of their profession, with close proximity to the patient's oropharyngeal and nasal regions and the use of aerosol-generating procedures. As obligate intracellular pathogens, viruses use intracellular machineries and pathways for efficient replication in their host target cells. View Article and Find Full Text PDFDendritic cells (DCs) and macrophages as well as osteoclasts (OCs) are emerging as target cells of HIV-1 involved in virus transmission, dissemination, and establishment of persistent tissue virus reservoirs. While these myeloid cells are poorly infected by cell-free viruses because of the high expression levels of cellular restriction factors such as SAMHD1, we show here that HIV-1 uses a specific and common cell-to-cell fusion mechanism for virus transfer and dissemination from infected T lymphocytes to the target cells of the myeloid lineage, including immature DCs (iDCs), OCs, and macrophages, but not monocytes and mature DCs. The establishment of contacts with infected T cells leads to heterotypic cell fusion for the fast and massive transfer of viral material into OC and iDC targets, which subsequently triggers homotypic fusion with noninfected neighboring OCs and iDCs for virus dissemination.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The aim of the third French Phosphorus and Calcium Observatory (Photo-Graphe 3) was to assess the achievement of international Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) recommendations on optimal serum phosphate, calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels and possible associations with mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Methods: This was a prospective, observational study conducted with nephrologists in France who were selected using a clustering approach. Adult patients with non-dialysis Stage 4 or 5 CKD and no kidney graft history were eligible.
Endosomal traffic of TCR and signaling molecules regulates immunological synapse formation and T cell activation. We recently showed that Rab11 endosomes regulate the subcellular localization of the tyrosine kinase Lck and of the GTPase Rac1 and control their functions in TCR signaling and actin cytoskeleton remodeling. HIV-1 infection of T cells alters their endosomal traffic, activation capacity, and actin cytoskeleton organization.

To spread, HIV-1 infects cells of the immune system and takes advantage of their specific particularities and functions. Subversion of intercellular communication allows to improve HIV-1 replication through a multiplicity of intercellular structures and membrane protrusions, like tunneling nanotubes, filopodia, or lamellipodia-like structures involved in the formation of the virological synapse.
