Background: Nursing students are tasked with connecting theoretical knowledge with clinical practice to ensure patient safety and provide quality care. However, there is a distinct lack of research on nursing student learning transfer. More exploration and research are necessary to understand how nursing students apply their learning in complex and evolving clinical situations.

Most anatomic features of the internal carotid artery (ICA) are described as a straight course to the skull base free of branches. In some cases, the excessive elongation of the internal carotid artery in a confined space results in a curvature showing a "C" or "S" shape, or in an abnormal vascular shape made of a single or double vessel loop. These anatomic variants are called dolichoarteriopathies of the internal carotid artery.

Objective: Following resection of posterior superior frontal gyrus (PSFG) tumors, patients can experience supplementary motor area (SMA) syndrome consisting of contralateral hemiapraxia and/or speech apraxia. Given the heterogeneity of PSFG tumors, the authors sought to determine the risk of postoperative deficits and assess predictors of outcomes for all intraparenchymal PSFG tumors undergoing surgery (biopsy or resection), regardless of histology.

Methods: This was a retrospective single-center cohort study of adult PSFG-region tumors undergoing biopsy or resection by a single surgeon.

Objective: To highlight the neurosurgical implications of the hypoxia-inducible factor-2α- targeting agent belzutifan in the management of both von-Hippel Lindau (VHL)-associated and sporadic hemangioblastomas (HBLs).

Methods: The literature was queried for VHL, HBLs, and belzutifan. A summary of recent uses of belzutifan and currently ongoing clinical trials that are investigating the use of belzutifan in the treatment of HBLs is presented.

Intravenous thrombolysis is the standard treatment for acute ischemic stroke. We here report the cases of thrombolysis alert in the private sector in Morocco We conducted a prospective study of all patients with neurological deficit of sudden onset occurred within the first 12 hours admitted to the Emergency Department of the Al Badie international private clinic from January 2022 to September 2023. Epidemiological, clinical and etiological characteristics as well as data on outpatient and inpatient delays were collected.

Pediatric high-grade gliomas are a devastating subset of brain tumors, characterized by their aggressive pathophysiology and limited treatment options. Among them, H3 K27-altered diffuse midline gliomas (DMG) of the brainstem stand out due to their distinct molecular features and dismal prognosis. Recent advances in molecular profiling techniques have unveiled the critical role of H3 K27 alterations, particularly a lysine-to-methionine mutation on position 27 (K27M) of the histone H3 tail, in the pathogenesis of DMG.

Article Synopsis
  • Compassion is linked to better patient outcomes, quality care, and provider wellbeing, and the EnACT program aims to enhance compassion in healthcare providers through a comprehensive training initiative to address current gaps in education and evaluation tools.
  • The study utilized surveys and qualitative interviews with 26 healthcare providers to assess their experiences and outcomes before and after the training, focusing on aspects like professional fulfillment, burnout, and compassion competence.
  • Results indicated that learners had high levels of compassion competence and professional fulfillment before training, but showed a significant increase in compassion competence and overall satisfaction after completing the program.

Introduction And Aim: The advances and the wide use of brain imaging have considerably increased the prevalence of silent brain infarctions (SBI). We aim in this study to determine the prevalence of SBI in patients presenting with acute cardioembolic stroke and the predictive cardiovascular risk factors.

Methods: This retrospective study included 267 patients presenting with acute cardioembolic stroke in the emergency and/or neurology departments of the Hassan II University Hospital Center.

Carotid web is a rare intraluminal parietal protrusion in the carotid artery. This vascular anomaly mostly occurs at the bifurcation causing turbulent flow, and is responsible of thrombi formation associated with embolic ischemic events. We report the case of a 35-year-old woman, with no medical history, who presented a recurrent middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion within twelve hours caused by a carotid bulb web.

Introduction: H3 K27-altered diffuse midline glioma (DMG) is the most common malignant brainstem tumor in the pediatric population. Despite enormous preclinical and clinical efforts, the prognosis remains dismal, with fewer than 10% of patients surviving for two years after diagnosis. Fractionated radiation remains the only standard treatment options for DMG.

Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze the hemorrhagic risk of melanoma brain metastases after Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS).

Methods: A prospective institutional database was retrospectively queried to identify patients who underwent GKRS for melanoma brain metastases between 1990 and 2021. Lesional hemorrhage was defined as definite or possible based on radiologists' readings, and severity was graded according to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events.

Hemangioblastomas pose an inherent surgical risk due to the potential for high intraoperative blood loss, especially in larger tumors. One approach to minimize this risk is to use preoperative embolization. Herein, we present our institutional experience treating large and giant cerebellar hemangioblastomas.

Cerebral malaria is the deadliest complication that can arise from Plasmodium infection. CD8 T-cell engagement of brain vasculature is a putative mechanism of neuropathology in cerebral malaria. To define contributions of brain endothelial cell major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I antigen-presentation to CD8 T cells in establishing cerebral malaria pathology, we developed novel H-2Kb LoxP and H-2Db LoxP mice crossed with Cdh5-Cre mice to achieve targeted deletion of discrete class I molecules, specifically from brain endothelium.

Background: Information needs are one of the most common unmet supportive care needs of those living with cancer. Little is known about how existing tools for assessing information needs in the cancer context have been created or the role those with lived cancer experience played in their development.

Objectives: This review aimed to characterize the development and intended use of existing cancer specific information needs assessment tools.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant brain tumor and has a poor prognosis. Imaging findings at diagnosis and in response to treatment are nonspecific. Developing noninvasive assays to augment imaging would be helpful.

Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), an understudied and lethal breast cancer, is often misdiagnosed due to its unique presentation of diffuse tumor cell clusters in the skin and dermal lymphatics. Here, we describe a window chamber technique in combination with a novel transgenic mouse model that has red fluorescent lymphatics (ProxTom RFP Nu/Nu) to simulate IBC clinicopathological hallmarks. Various breast cancer cells stably transfected to express green or red fluorescent reporters were transplanted into mice bearing dorsal skinfold window chambers.

The occurrence of arterial and venous thrombosis during coronavirus infection has been widely reported since the beginning of the epidemic. Floating carotid thrombus (FCT) in the common carotid artery is exceptional and its main known cause is atherosclerosis. We describe the case of a 54-year-old man who developed, one week after the onset symptomatology of related to COVID-19 infection, an ischemic stroke, complicating a large intraluminal floating thrombus in the left common carotid artery.

Objective: Increasing numbers of Canadians living with complex, life-limiting conditions demand high-quality palliative care. Timely access to palliative care can help to reduce stress, improve quality of life, and provide relief for patients and their families. The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of family physicians (FPs) regarding the decision and process of introducing palliative care to patients with chronic diseases.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane-bound particles released by all cells. Previous research has found that these microscopic vesicles contribute to intercellular signaling and communication. EVs carry a variety of cargo, including nucleic acids, proteins, metabolites, and lipids.
