Patient-specific flanged acetabular components are utilized to treat failed total hip arthroplasties with severe acetabular defects. We previously developed and published a finite element model that investigated the impact of hip joint center lateralization on construct biomechanics during gait conditions. This model consisted of a patient-specific implant designed to address a superior-medial defect created in a standard pelvic geometry.

A scoping review was undertaken to document studies that have reported genetic counseling patient care time and provide a landscape of the average patient care time, which factors impact patient care time, and how patient care time relates to experiences and outcomes. Twenty-five studies met criteria and were included.

However, the current clinical osseointegration failure is not associated with wear particles. Here, we develop a murine model of osseointegration failure not associated with wear particles and validate it by comparing the cellular composition of interfacial tissues with human samples collected during total joint arthroplasty revision for aseptic loosening.

While many companies have developed midlevel constrained (MLC) polyethylene inserts in primary TKAs, there is little data on their outcomes.
Purpose: We sought to analyze short-term outcomes including survivorship, rates of manipulation under anesthesia (MUA), and improvements in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) preoperatively to postoperatively in one design of MLC TKA.
The evaluation, classification, and treatment of significant bone loss after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) continue to be a complex and debated topic in revision TKA (rTKA). Despite the introduction of new evidence and innovative technologies aimed at addressing the approach and care of severe bone loss in rTKA, there is no single document that systematically incorporates these newer surgical approaches. Therefore, a comprehensive review of the treatment of severe bone loss in rTKA is necessary.

Design: A national mapping of data from the patients' medical records, between April 2021 and March 2023.
Setting: Data from medical records for patients with hard-to-heal ulcers from a randomised clustered sample of two units per level of care and region.
The cellular and molecular mediators of peri-implant fibrosis-a most common reason for implant failure and for surgical revision after the replacement of a prosthetic joint-remain unclear. Here we show that peri-implant fibrotic tissue in mice and humans is largely composed of a specific population of skeletal cells expressing the leptin receptor (LEPR) and that these cells are necessary and sufficient to generate and maintain peri-implant fibrotic tissue. In a mouse model of tibial implantation and osseointegration that mimics partial knee arthroplasty, genetic ablation of LEPR cells prevented peri-implant fibrosis and the implantation of LEPR cells from peri-implant fibrotic tissue was sufficient to induce fibrosis in secondary hosts.

Synergistic use of povidone-iodine (PI) and hydrogen peroxide (HO) has shown promising results; however, the optimal solution concentration balancing bactericidal activity and osseointegration remains unknown. This study aims to evaluate the impact of these antiseptic irrigation solutions on osseointegration and the bone-implant interface strength in vivo.

Osseointegration, defined as a direct structural and functional attachment between living bone tissue and the surface of a load-carrying implant, is essential for implant stability and considered a prerequisite for the long-term clinical success of implants in total joint arthroplasty. Compared to large animal models, murine models offer extensive genetic tools for tracing cell differentiation and proliferation.

We review the current status for ground state interactions. This interaction is found to be of a much longer range than in the case when the molecules are pointlike and nonconducting.

Unfortunately, these procedures are associated with a high rate of periprosthetic joint infection. The purpose of the current study was to: 1) visualize and quantify the progression of bacterial biofilm growth on PPE-mesh; and 2) determine which antiseptic solutions effectively remove viable bacteria.

Recently, emphasis has been placed on bone health optimization: treating low BMD prior to a planned orthopaedic implant procedure in an effort to normalize BMD and reduce the potential risk of future complications. Previous clinical studies from our institution showed that these implants tend to lateralize the acetabular center of rotation. However, the clinical impact of lateralization on implant survivorship is debated.

The aim of this study was to compare the radiographic and clinical outcomes of Vancouver B2 PFFs treated with contemporary monoblock versus modular TFTs.
Methods: A consecutive series of 113 patients (72 women, 64%, mean age 70 years [range, 26 to 96]) who had a B2 PFF were treated with either a monoblock (n = 42) or modular (n = 71) TFT stem between 2008 and 2021.
Objectives: Autoantibodies against tissue transglutaminase (tTG) are serological markers of celiac disease. The aim was to study the applicability of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-genotyping and tTG autoantibodies in the screening of celiac disease in a longitudinal birth cohort followed to age 15 years.
Methods: Included were 13,860 HLA-DQ-genotyped children at birth and previously invited to a screening at age 3 and 9 years, respectively.

Ice nucleation and formation play pivotal roles across various domains, from environmental science to food engineering. However, the exact ice formation mechanisms remain incompletely understood. This study introduces a novel ice formation process, which can be either heterogeneous or homogeneous, depending on the initial conditions.

Far more publications are available for osteoarthritis of the knee than of the hip. Recognizing this research gap, the Arthritis Foundation (AF), in partnership with the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), convened an in-person meeting of thought leaders to review the state of the science of and clinical approaches to hip osteoarthritis. This article summarizes the recommendations gleaned from 5 presentations given on hip-related rehabilitation at the 2023 Hip Osteoarthritis Clinical Studies Conference, which took place on February 17 and 18, 2023, in New York City.

We explore the Casimir-Lifshitz free-energy theory for surface freezing of methane gas hydrates near the freezing point of water. The theory enables us to explore different pathways, resulting in anomalous (stabilizing) ice layers on methane hydrate surfaces via energy minimization. Notably, we will contrast the gas hydrate material properties, under which thin ice films can form in water vapor, with those previously predicted to be required in the presence of liquid water.
