Objective: Despite having normal thyroid-stimulating hormone levels, many hypothyroid patients are dissatisfied with the treatment. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of twice-daily, combination therapy with levothyroxine (LT4) and liothyronine (LT3), at doses adapted according to TSH-level, on peripheral tissues as reflected by sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) levels in totally thyroidectomized patients. Changes in other tissue markers and quality of life considering DIO2-rs225014 and MCT10-rs17606253 genetic variants were also assessed.

Reducing children's exposure to air pollutants should be considered a primary goal, especially for the most vulnerable subjects. The goal of this study was to test the effectiveness of applying a protocol in the event of alert days, i.e.

The aims of this study were to evaluate QoL in thyroidectomized subjects in different levothyroxine states and to evaluate the association between TSH and thyroid hormones and QoL.
Methods: Prospective 5-year study enrolling 208 patients thyroidectomized for DTC, studied in one to four times according to levothyroxine dosage: withdrawal (WITHD), complete (C-SUPP) and mild TSH-suppression (M-SUPP), replacement (REPL).
Aim: Validated clinical decision rules on neuroimaging are not available for children who are evaluated more than 24 h after a minor head trauma. We compared clinically important traumatic brain injuries in children who presented with a minor head trauma within or after 24 h.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of patients aged 0-17 years, who were evaluated for minor head traumas by five paediatric emergency departments in Northern Italy between January 2019 and June 2020.
Purpose: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) lockdowns have impacted on management of osteoporosis and the use of telemedicine is increasingly widespread albeit supported by little evidence so far. The aim of the study is to assess adherence to denosumab and incidence of non-traumatic fractures during the lockdown compared to the pre-COVID-19 year and to explore the effectiveness of telemedicine in the management of osteoporotic patients.
Methods: Retrospective, longitudinal, single-center study on patients receiving subcutaneous denosumab therapy every 6 months.
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the real-life use of BRAF-V600E mutation analysis in washout liquid from thyroid nodule fine needle aspiration (FNA), and the consequences of genetic result on clinical decision-making.
Methods: We retrospectively considered subjects tested for BRAF-V600E among those attending the Endocrinology Unit of Modena for FNA between 2014 and 2018. Washing fluid was collected together with cytological sample and stored at -20 °C.

We report the case of a male patient, 80 years old, with a history of dyspepsia and no family history of neoplasias. In the upper digestive endoscopy in the distal esophagus, a flat depressed lesion with the appearance of early carcinoma, type IIC of Paris classification, was diagnosed by biopsy as a squamous carcinoma in situ, infiltrating, moderately differentiated non-keratinizing grade II carcinoma. He underwent submucosal endoscopic dissection without complications.

Preventive chemotherapy, which is the intervention currently recommended by the WHO against the main helminth infections including those caused by STHs, aims at reducing morbidity through periodical administration of anthelminthic drugs either alone or in combination. The Expanded Programme on Immunization is one of the most widely implemented health programmes in the world and has well established access to children and women.

The aim of this study was to evaluate a new kit, Fingerprint DNA Finder (FDF Kit), recently launched for the extraction of DNA and STR profiling from fingerprints placed on a special device known as Self-Adhesive Security Seal Sticker(®) and other latent fingerprints on forensic evidentiary material like metallic guns. The DNA extraction system is based on a reversal of the silica principle, and all the potential inhibiting substances are retained on the surface of a special adsorbent, while nucleic acids are not bound and remain in solution dramatically improving DNA recovery.

The aim of this case report is to describe an interdisciplinary treatment of hypoplastic AI associated with a severe open bite. The treatment consisted of surgical, orthodontic, periodontal, prosthetic and restorative management, establishing good chewing function, dental esthetics and facial harmony.

Salmonella typhimurium DA 361 bears an env D1 mutation with the following abnormal phenotypical and biochemical characteristics: a) it autolyses at stationary phase in nutrient broth; b) it grows in chains of short rods; c) it is a poor maltose fermenter and d) it has a diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG) content twice as high than its isogenic non-lytic pair DA 362 (env D+) and LT2, of which both are derivatives. Growth of DA 361 in the presence of 400 mM ethanol leads on a 50% decrease of DPG level, thereby equalling its PG/DPG ratio with those of the control strain. Consequently, a correction on the other phenotypical and biochemical anomalies are induced since the DA 361 strain decreases its autolytic activity, ferments normally maltose and appear as rods undifferentiated from DA 362.
