Spin-Orbit Torque (SOT) Magnetic Random-Access Memory (MRAM) devices offer improved power efficiency, nonvolatility, and performance compared to static RAM, making them ideal, for instance, for cache memory applications. Efficient magnetization switching, long data retention, and high-density integration in SOT MRAM require ferromagnets (FM) with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) combined with large torques enhanced by Orbital Hall Effect (OHE). We have engineered a PMA [Co/Ni] FM on selected OHE layers (Ru, Nb, Cr) and investigated the potential of theoretically predicted larger orbital Hall conductivity (OHC) to quantify the torque and switching current in OHE/[Co/Ni] stacks.

NeuroImmune Pharm Ther

September 2024

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and debilitating autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) in which a CNS-driven immune response destroys myelin, leading to wide range of symptoms including numbness and tingling, vision problems, mobility impairment, etc. Oligodendrocytes are the myelinating cells in the CNS, which are generated from oligodendroglial progenitor cells (OPCs) via differentiation. However, for multiple reasons, OPCs fail to differentiate to oligodendrocytes in MS and as a result, stimulating the differentiation of OPCs to oligodendrocytes is considered beneficial for MS.

Measles and rubella have long been recognized as priorities for disease prevention because of their devastating consequences for child health; hence, all World Health Organization (WHO) regions currently have a goal to eliminate measles and four out of six WHO regions have a goal to eliminate rubella. Significant global progress has been made in the twenty-first century, with more than 40% of countries in the world verified by a Regional Verification Commission as having eliminated measles and more than 50% of countries having sustained rubella elimination. Making further progress will require addressing fundamental gaps in health systems, a particular challenge in the current global context where many countries face multiple barriers to both sustaining and achieving measles and rubella elimination.

Quantum-confined, two-dimensional (2D) CsPbBr (CPB) nanoplates (NPLs) have emerged as exceptional candidates for next-generation blue LEDs and display technology applications. However, their large surface-to-volume ratio and detrimental bromide vacancies adversely affect their photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). Additionally, external perturbations such as heat, light exposure, moisture, oxygen, and solvent polarity accelerate their transformation into three-dimensional (3D), green-emitting CPB nanocrystals (NCs), thereby resulting in the loss of their quantum confinement.

Despite music's omnipresence, the specific neural mechanisms responsible for perceiving and anticipating temporal patterns in music are unknown. To study potential mechanisms for keeping time in rhythmic contexts, we train a biologically constrained RNN, with excitatory (E) and inhibitory (I) units, on seven different stimulus tempos (2-8 Hz) on a synchronization and continuation task, a standard experimental paradigm. Our trained RNN generates a network oscillator that uses an input current (context parameter) to control oscillation frequency and replicates key features of neural dynamics observed in neural recordings of monkeys performing the same task.

The presence of loss mechanisms governed by empirical timescales can profoundly affect the dynamics in molecular systems, leading to changes in their spectra. However, incorporation of these effects along with the system's interaction with the thermal dissipative environments proves to be challenging. In this work, we demonstrate the possibility of utilizing the recently developed path integral Lindblad dynamics (PILD) method to study the linear spectra of molecular aggregates.

Article Synopsis
  • Implementing strategies targeting specific high-degree or high-betweenness nodes in epidemic networks significantly reduces outbreak sizes.
  • * The study uses a disease-spreading meta-population model with testkits to analyze how migration affects infection dynamics across different communities.
  • * The research finds that nodes with and without testkits separate into two clusters at low migration rates but merge into one cluster at higher rates, validating this behavior through extensive simulations in various network types.

Artificial light at night (ALAN) can disrupt the natural behaviour, physiology, and circadian rhythms of organisms exposed to it, and therefore presents a significant and widespread ecological concern. ALAN typically comprises a wide range of wavelengths, and different wavelengths have different effects on circadian clocks. In the animals investigated thus far, short and middle wavelengths are intensely involved in synchronisation and entrainment, but we still have a poor understanding of how different wavelengths might affect behaviour when animals are exposed to ALAN, in particular whether some wavelengths are disproportionally detrimental.
