We report on a case of localized ganglioneuroblastoma treated by carboplatin/etoposide for 2 courses and surgery, which developed a serious GHD after 56 months. Objective: To obtain accurate normal anterior pituitary gland volume in childhood using 3D-MRI coronal sections.
Background: Neonatal onset hypopituitarism is a life-threatening, potentially treatable endocrine disease. A possible cause is congenital absence of the anterior pituitary gland, a condition very rarely reported in the literature.
Methods: A series of 5 cases of children with pituitary aplasia referred to the Centre of Paediatric Endocrinology 'Rina Balducci', Tor Vergata University, Rome, is presented.

Data on growth of children with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) before the onset of disease are conflicting, and although the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system has almost invariably been found altered at diagnosis, most of previous studies are affected by the small number of patients investigated. Design And Patients: A cohort of 49 adolescents with type 1 diabetes were enrolled in the study.

Background: The relative importance of genetic and environmental factors in causing insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is unknown. We studied this question by assessing the incidence of the disease in children, born in a region with a low incidence of IDDM (Lazio), but whose parents came from a region with high incidence (Sardinia).

We describe a single case of a polymalformational syndrome in which the MR findings were of great help in the final diagnosis of Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (SLOS) type I. MRI was performed for evaluation of the brain morphology since the clinical and laboratory findings were suggestive but not unequivocally indicative of SLOS. MRI findings of frontal lobe hypoplasia, cortical migration defect, and abnormalities of median line structures prompted the final diagnosis of SLOS.
