Relapsing diffuse large B cell lymphomas (rDLBCL) represent a heterogeneous disease. This heterogeneity should be recognized and reflected, because it can deform the interpretation of clinical trial results. DLBCL patients with the first relapse and without CNS involvement were identified in the Czech Lymphoma Study Group (CLSG) database.

Article Synopsis
  • Peripheral T cell lymphomas (PTLs) have a poor prognosis, and the standard CHOP treatment is not very effective; the study suggests investigating the CHOEP regimen and the role of autologous stem cell transplantation (auto-SCT) as potential improvements.
  • A retrospective analysis of 906 PTL patients diagnosed from 1999-2015 found that younger patients did better with CHOEP compared to CHOP, showing improved 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).
  • Despite indicating a 5-year OS of around 50% for patients undergoing auto-SCT, most high-risk patients (73.9%) did not receive planned auto-SCT, highlighting challenges in administering this

Molecular targeted therapy based on tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI), directed at epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is one of the novel effective agents in management of advanced-stage of Non Small Cell Lung cancer (NSCLC). However several candidate predictors have been extensively studied, apart from activating EGFR gene mutations, no reliable biochemical or molecular predictors of response to erlotinib have been validated. The aim of our retrospective study was to evaluate the association of baseline serum albumin with outcomes in a large cohort of patients with advanced-stage NSCLC treated with erlotinib.

Article Synopsis
  • Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) targeting EGFR are effective treatments for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and this study looked at the role of EGFR gene amplification in these patients.
  • The research involved 290 patients, using specific testing methods (MLPA and PCR) to detect EGFR gene amplification and mutations.
  • Although EGFR amplification was found in 9% of patients, it was more common in those with EGFR mutations; however, it did not correlate with improved survival and is not a reliable predictive biomarker for TKI treatment.
