Invasive fungal infections (IFI) pose a significant complication after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Isavuconazole (ISV) is a new generation azole with a favourable adverse effect and interaction profile approved for the treatment of invasive aspergillosis and mucormycosis. We analyzed the indications, effectiveness, adverse event profile and drug interaction management of ISV in the real-world setting in adults who received allogeneic-HSCT (allo-HSCT) within the Spanish Group of HSCT and Cell Therapy (GETH-TC).

Background: Photobiomodulation (PBM) improves motor performance despite doubts whether it occurs immediately or late after a single dose. We evaluated the effect of a cluster PMB (laser + LED) single dose on muscle fatigue recovery in young sedentary adults, both immediately and in the short term (period between 24 and 48 h) after the fatiguing event.

Methods: Randomized clinical trial with 60 volunteers randomized in 5 groups (n = 12 in each): control/(CG); placebo/(SG); PBM in knee extensor/(KE_G); plantar-flexor/(PF_G); knee extensor + plantar-flexor/(KE + FP_G).

Worldwide, more than 5.7% of the population reside above 1,500 m of elevation. It has been hypothesized that acute short-term hypoxia exposure could increase the risk of developing a stroke.

Background: This study aims to compare the characteristics between patients who underwent aortic valve replacement (AVR) through a J-shaped upper mini-sternotomy (UMS) and patients who underwent full sternotomy (FS) in the basis of clinical care and hospital outcomes.

Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted on adult patients who were subjected to AVR by UMS from 2014 to 2017, compared with a historical control of patients who had undergone UMS by FS from 2011 to 2014. Patients, who received combined valve replacement or aortic surgery, as well as heart valve reinterventions due to endocarditis, were excluded.

Introduction: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are designed to improve the quality of care and reduce unjustified individual variation in clinical practice. Knowledge of the barriers and facilitators that influence the implementation of the CPG recommendations is the first step in creating strategies to improve health outcomes. The present systematic meta-review sought to explore the barriers and facilitators for the implementation of CPGs.

Genetic manipulation shows great promise to further boost the productivity of microalgae-based compounds. However, selection of microalgal transformants depends mainly on the use of antibiotics, which have raised concerns about their potential impacts on human health and the environment. We propose the use of a synthetic phytoene desaturase-encoding gene () as a selectable marker and the bleaching herbicide norflurazon as a selective agent for the genetic transformation of microalgae.

Sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC) insurgence and progression depend on the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Dickkopf (DKK)-1 is an extracellular inhibitor of Wnt/β-catenin signaling that also has undefined β-catenin-independent actions. Here we report for the first time that a proportion of DKK-1 locates within the nucleus of healthy small intestine and colon mucosa, and of CRC cells at specific chromatin sites of active transcription.

Protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) is a tumor suppressor that regulates many signaling pathways crucial for cell transformation. In fact, decreased activity of PP2A has been reported as a recurrent alteration in many types of cancer. Here, we show that PP2A is frequently inactivated in patients with colorectal cancer, indicating that PP2A represents a potential therapeutic target for this disease.

Introduction: This article presents recommendations based on evidence gathered to answer a series of clinical questions concerning the depressive episode and the recurrent depressive disorder, with emphasis on general treatment aspects, treatment in the acute phase and management of the continuation/maintenance, all intended to grant health care parameters based on the best and more updated available evidence for achieving minimum quality standards with adult patients thus diagnosed.

Methodology: A practical clinical guide was elaborated according to standards of the Methodological Guide of the Ministry of Social Protection. Recommendation from NICE90 and CANMAT guides were adopted and updated so as to answer the questions posed while de novo questions were developed.
