[Selection criteria for parameters of electric current in trans-CSF brain stimulation in patients with posttraumatic vegetative state].

Trans-CSF brain stimulation is on of applied methods of stimulation in posttraumatic vegetative state. The paper analyzes application of this technique under the control by different methods of electrophysiological monitoring. Authors suggest principles of selection of stimulation parameters and detectable criteria of its effectiveness.

[Treatment outcome of chemotherapy with superselective cerebral artery catheterization in vegetative state patients].

The purpose of the study is to assess the impact of superselective neurotransmitter metabolic therapy in patients in a vegetative state. Superselective intraarterial infusion was conducted on 26 patients with relevant international criteria for the diagnosis of vegetative state. Comprehensive assessment of neurologic symptoms and severity of low metabolism on PET scan allowed to select the vascular pool, for the catheter installation.

[Peculiarities of disorders of brain bioelectrical activity spatial-time organization in patients with different consciousness depression after severe head injury].

Specific changes of bioelectrical brain activity was found in 27 patients with different level of posttraumatic consciousness depression by the methods of crosscorrelation, coherence and factor analysis of EEG. The changes of activity of morphofunctional systems of intracerebral integrations were revealed partially by decreasing of unspecific activity from brainstem structures reflected with increasing of slow wave activity and decreasing of EEG coherence in alpha- and beta-range. Depression of system organization of interconnections of bioelectrical brain activity in frontal and occipital regions of both hemispheres was also detected, and testified about decreasing of intercortical and thalamocortical brain system action under brain dislocation.

[The role of rivastigmine (exelon) in the treatment of consequences of cranial-brain trauma].

The use of rivastigmine in the rehabilitation of patients with cognitive disturbances after cranial-brain trauma (CBT) is reviewed. Replacement of cholinergic deficit exerts a positive effect on sanogenetic process in the brain, facilitate consolidation and learning of afferent information in the restoring brain. The authors emphasize that the administration of neuromediator preparations needs the level of organization of integrative brain activity which is sufficient for the formation of awakening reaction (opening of eyes - awakening from coma).

[Effect of long-term microgravity on the vestibular function].

Comprehensive computerized oculomotor testing was used to investigate the vestibular function in 9 Russian members of ISS crews 3-9 on days 1 (2), 4 (5) and 8 (9) of return from long-term stay in microgravity (126 to 195 days). The vestibular function was assessed by the static otolith-cervical-ocular reflex, dynamic otolith-cervical-ocular reactions, vestibular reactivity, and spontaneous oculomotor activity. The postflight investigations revealed functional disorders in the peripheral (an increased vestibular reactivity, absent or damped otolith-cervical-ocular reflex), and central (spontaneous typical and atypical nystagmus, gaze nystagmus) vestibular analyzer.

[Diagnostics and treatment of varicocele as a symptom of renal venous hypertension].

From the year 1997, we examined 61 patients with left-sided varicocele aged 9-28 years. Nine (14.7%) of them had a recurrence of the disease after intervention (Ivanissevich operation).

[An experimental study on the effects of high pressure on adsorption properties of silochrome C-120].

Adsorption properties of silochrome in a helium atmosphere at 77 as were investigated. It was demonstrated that at a high pressure adsorption properties of silochrome changed and Henry coefficients decreased.

[Extracellular serine proteinase A of Streptomyces rutgersensis].

Extracellular serine proteinase of Streptomyces rutgersensis (proteinase A) has been isolated by affinity chromatography on bacitracin-Sepharose in the presence of Na2EDTA. The proteolytic activity of the enzyme is completely suppressed by specific inhibitors of serine proteinases, phenylmethylsulfonylfluoride and diisopropylfluorophosphate, but is insensitive to Na2EDTA and sodium p-hydroxymercuribenzoate. The enzyme activity towards hemoglobin is maximal at pH 9-10, the maximal stability is observed within the pH range of 6-10.

[Isolation and characterization of the lytic enzyme from Bacillus subtilis 797].

The isolation procedure and some properties of the lytic enzyme produced by Bacillus subtilis 797 and capable of hydrolyzing the E. coli K-12 cells are described. Using hydrophobic chromatography on DNP-hexamethylene diamine Sepharose 4B and ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose, a highly purified enzyme preparation with mol.

[Chromatography of carboxylic proteinases on sorbents containing the 2,4-dinitrophenyl group. Role of ionic interactions].

The chromatography of porcine pepsin on biospecific sorbents (Sepharose-4B-epsilon-DNP-aminocapronylhydrazide and Sepharose-4B-N-DNP-N'-acetylhexamethylenediamine) was studied. The sorbents in question differ from the previously used hydrophobic sorbent Sepharose-4B-DNP-hexamethylenediamine by the lack of strongly basic groups in the site of the ligand binding to the polymeric matrix. No qualitative differences in the pepsin chromatography on the three sorbents were observed.

[Possibilities of measurement of impedance by the use of long-range intracerebral electrodes].

An investigation of constituents in the complex (overall) resistance of deep-lying brain structures of patients with hyperkinesis treated by employing implanted electrodes helped disclose some specific features common to the impedance of conduction pathways, ventricles and some basal ganglia. The actual value of the impedance depends upon the technical peculiarities of the method. The latter does not permit it to identify the position of the electrodes amidsts various cellular structures, but is of a definite value in defining more accurately the localization of electrodes and in identifying them.

Chromatography of acid proteinases and chymotrypsin on a sorbent containing 2,4-dinitrophenyl residues.

A sorbent obtained by treatment of cyanogen bromide-activated Sepharose 4B with mono-N-DNP-hexamethylenediamine has been shown to be effective in the affinity chromatography of pepsin, pepsinogen and acid proteinase from Aspergillus awamori. It is considered that 2,4-dinitrophenyl residues of the sorbent interact specifically with the hydrophobic zone of the enzyme, which may belong to the substrate binding site. The chromatography of chymotrypsin on the same sorbent supports this assumption.
