Benzophenone-3 (also referred to as oxybenzone) is a putative endocrine disrupting chemical and common ingredient in sunscreens and other personal care products. We previously showed that benzophenone-3 can have both promotional and protective effects on mammary tumorigenesis dependent upon dietary fat. The current study examined diet-dependent effects of benzophenone-3 in mammary ductal development in BALB/c mice.

Unlabelled: Aim of this paper is to present a literature review among bone conduction hearing aids particularly focusing on their surgical and functional outcomes.

Methods: A detailed review of the English literature to date on bone conduction hearing aids and outcomes have been performed using Pubmed, Scopus, Google Scholar and Medline databases. The literature review was performed using the guidelines proposed by the study "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA)" for scoping review.

Background: Gaucher's disease (GD), a lysosomal storage disorder, poses significant treatment challenges. This 23-year study assesses survival rates and treatment efficacy in Brazilian GD patients, integrating data from a 16-year cohort (2000-2015) and the TABNET/DATASUS medicines distribution data (1999-2022).

Objective: To investigate the survival of GD patients in Brazil, identifying key risk factors and evaluating the impact of treatments funded by the Brazilian National Health System (SUS).

The escalating climate imbalance, coupled with rising water demands in rapidly expanding urban areas, is forcing scientists and policymakers to seek alternative strategies for efficient water resource management. Nature Based Solutions (NBS) are gaining prominence due to their ability to provide multiple ecosystem services. However, the quantification of benefits and drawbacks mediated by different vegetation species remains inadequate.

Article Synopsis
  • - Sewage surveillance is a useful method for detecting viruses in local communities and can help track outbreaks and emerging health threats, as demonstrated in Belo Horizonte, Brazil through the detection of the Mpox virus in wastewater samples over 9 months.
  • - The study found varied detection rates of MPXV DNA, with higher rates in hospital wastewater (40%) compared to municipal wastewater (13.3%), likely influenced by the low number of reported MPXV cases and dilution from large populations served by wastewater treatment plants.
  • - In addition to MPXV, nine other virus families were identified, including SARS-CoV-2, highlighting the potential of genomic sewage surveillance as a key public health tool for monitoring diverse viral activity in both hospital and community settings

Article Synopsis
  • Increased body mass index (BMI) may affect outcomes and complications after shoulder surgeries (aTSA and rTSA), but its long-term impact on these procedures is not fully known.
  • A study tracked 466 patients who underwent TSA from 2009 to 2020, categorizing them by BMI into underweight/normal weight, overweight, and obese, while analyzing their demographics, comorbidities, and functional outcomes.
  • Results showed significant improvements in range of motion and strength post-surgery across all BMI groups, with no notable differences in patient-reported outcomes or survival rates based on BMI.

Backgrounds: The rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems, such as Midjourney, has paved the way for their use in medical training, producing computer-generated images. However, despite clear disclosures stating that these images are not intended for medical consultations, their accuracy and realism are yet to be thoroughly examined.

Methods: A series of requests were addressed to the Midjourney AI tool, a renowned generative artificial intelligence application, with a focus on depicting appropriate systemic anatomy and representing aesthetic surgery operations.

Endophytes are considered an essential source of natural products. Skin is the body's largest organ; its primary function is the protection of other organs, and aging is one of the most relevant problems associated with this organ. UV radiation generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), which lead to skin degeneration and consequent aging.

is a metabolic disorder that affects millions of people worldwide and is linked to oxidative stress and inflammation. Thiazolidinediones (TZD) improve insulin sensitization and glucose homeostasis mediated by the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors γ (PPARγ) in patients with type 2 diabetes. However, their use is associated with severe adverse effects such as loss of bone mass, retention of body fluids, liver and heart problems, and increased risk of bladder cancer.

Background: Acute mastoiditis (AM) is the most common complication of acute otitis media and primarily affects children under the age of two; current data on its prevalence in paediatric patients with cochlear implant (CI) are still scant. Proper management of AM in CI children is crucial in order to avoid the implications (financial and emotional) of an explant. Aim of this paper is to describe the cases of AM occurred among young patients with CI in follow up at our department, also in order to evaluate its prevalence, potential predisposing factors, clinical course and therapeutic strategies.

The olfactory bulb (OB) is one of two regions of the mammalian brain which undergo continuous neuronal replacement during adulthood. A significant fraction of the cells added in adulthood to the bulbar circuitry is constituted by dopaminergic (DA) neurons. We took advantage of a peculiar property of dopaminergic neurons in transgenic mice expressing eGFP under the tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) promoter: while DA neurons located in the glomerular layer (GL) display full electrophysiological maturation, eGFP+ cells in the mitral layer (ML) show characteristics of immature cells.

Background: Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) inhibition is a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD).

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of the potent, selective, CNS-penetrant LRRK2 inhibitor BIIB122 (DNL151) in healthy participants and patients with PD.

Methods: Two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies were completed.

Mutations in leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 () are the most common genetic risk factors for Parkinson's disease (PD). Increased LRRK2 kinase activity is thought to impair lysosomal function and may contribute to the pathogenesis of PD. Thus, inhibition of LRRK2 is a potential disease-modifying therapeutic strategy for PD.

The International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) E14 document was revised in 2015 to allow concentration-corrected QT interval (C-QTc) analysis to be applied to data from early clinical pharmacology studies to exclude a small drug-induced effect on QTc. Provided sufficiently high concentrations of the drug are obtained in the first-in-human (FIH) study, this approach can be used to obviate the need for a designated thorough QT (TQT) study. The E14 revision has resulted in a steady reduction in the number of TQT studies and an increased use of FIH studies to evaluate electrocardiogram (ECG) effects of drugs in development.

Several countries maintain universal health coverage, which implies responsibility to organize delivery formats of healthcare services and products for citizens. In Brazil, the health system has a principle of universal access for more than 30 years, but many deficiencies remain and the country observes a day practice for those seeking judicial decisions to determine provision of healthcare.
