The aflatoxins are hepatotoxic and carcinogenic metabolites produced by Aspergillus species during growth on crop products. In this regard, a systematic review to collect the quantitative data regarding the in vitro capacity of yeasts-based products to bind to aflatoxin B (AFB) and/or aflatoxin M (AFM) was performed. After screening, 31 articles which met the inclusion criteria was included and then the pooled decontamination of aflatoxins in the defined subgroups (the type of foods, pH, contact time, temperature, yeast species, and aflatoxin type) was calculated by the random effect model (REM).

Noise modeling and variance stabilization of a computed radiography (CR) mammography system subject to fixed-pattern noise.

In this work we model the noise properties of a computed radiography (CR) mammography system by adding an extra degree of freedom to a well-established noise model, and derive a variance-stabilizing transform (VST) to convert the signal-dependent noise into approximately signal-independent. The proposed model relies on a quadratic variance function, which considers fixed-pattern (structural), quantum and electronic noise. It also accounts for the spatial-dependency of the noise by assuming a space-variant quantum coefficient.

Survival and analysis of predictors of mortality in patients undergoing replacement renal therapy: a 20-year cohort.

Background: optimal management of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in hemodialysis (HD) patients should be more studied because it is a serious risk factor for mortality, being considered an unquestionable global priority.

Methods: we performed a retrospective cohort study from the Nephrology Service in Brazil evaluating the survival of patients with ESRD in HD during 20 years. Kaplan-Meier method with the Log-Rank and Cox's proportional hazards model explored the association between survival time and demographic factors, quality of treatment and laboratory values.

Mass Cytometry Phenotyping of Human Granulocytes Reveals Novel Basophil Functional Heterogeneity.

Basophils, the rarest granulocyte, play critical roles in parasite- and allergen-induced inflammation. We applied mass cytometry (CyTOF) to simultaneously asses 44 proteins to phenotype and functionally characterize neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils from 19 healthy donors. There was minimal heterogeneity seen in eosinophils and neutrophils, but data-driven analyses revealed four unique subpopulations within phenotypically basophilic granulocytes (PBG; CD45HLA-DRCD123).

Management Strategies for Lamb Production on Pasture-Based Systems in Subtropical Regions: A Review.

Sheep production on pasture plays an important role in subtropical climates around the world, with great economic and environmental relevance to those regions. However, this production is much lower than its true potential in subtropical regions, largely due to lack of knowledge of how to feed grazing lambs, and mitigate gastrointestinal parasite infections. Due to weather instability and the high growth rate of tropical grasses, it is difficult to adjust the quality and quantity of feed consumed by lambs.

This review presents literature that highlights saliva's utility as a biofluid in the diagnosis and monitoring of COVID-19. A systematic search was performed in 5 electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, LILACS, Scopus, and Web of Science).
